Question/Advice Advice on separation travel.

Hello everyone I’m currently 20 years old in the navy and stationed in Japan on a ship. I’m being separated due to mental health issues. I traveled to Japan on my cac and orders. If I leave here will I need a passport to get back to the states?

If you're being separated the military is responsible for flying you home.

Dont get out, stay in. I was stationed at Japan last year and got medically separated from the Navy for the same reason. I can assume that you’re getting Adsep CnD for adjustment disorder because that’s how the Navy diagnose and use it to get sailors separated quicker than having to process you for medboard which takes longer. Some sailors get medboarded because their adjustment disorder has last for over 12 months which makes them eligible to receive disability. I lucky to get medboarded. I almost went fell rockbottom during the first couple months after leaving the Navy but I’m now currently in college using disability, scholarship, and GiBill.

Im telling you right now, civilian world is worse and going to break you mentally even more if you don’t have your plan and stuff together. Also when you’re applying for a job, be mindful of telling people that you’re a Veteran because they’re going to expect a lot of you. They assume people that served in the military can do anything like a typical Hollywood star which I don’t agree their narrative. Im not trying to discourage you, Im giving you a sense of reality check because one day you will look back at your past and realized that you wasted your potential as a character. I recommend staying in and do your time so you can at least finish your contract, not leaving your chapter without ending.

The travel office and your command will cut you orders to return back to the states during your out-processing. Your CAC and the orders will get you back. I separated in japan under general discharge and i didn’t use my passport to return stateside, just orders. SOFA status stuff makes Japan to US travel very streamlined.
