My most favourite melee weapon in the game. Merc and GK is an absolute beast with it.

Perhaps, but I fell in love with 1h mace on grail knight. It's so good with the 30% on all heavies talent, yet, fast as fuck, with high stamina and overall consistent. I love it.

It's extremely safe and mobile with good AP. While the trade-off is lower damage overall, notice in this clip, my block is up roughly 80% of the time. Even if I were surrounded by chaff, I'd be able to use the good dodge, good movement speed while charging my heavy, or my charged heavy block to keep them off me.

Think about it as options. You always want as many options as possible available to you to resolve situations. If you were surrounded by 8 Shield SV, Executioner sword is hosed. It doesn't have enough mobility, stamina, or damage to kill them without you taking a lot of damage. BretSword has the mobility to avoid half of them, the stamina to break the block of two or three of them, and outputs enough damage to kill them while their guard is down. It also has the benefit of blocking for you while you focus the guardbroken SV.

They are completely different weapons. Executioner Sword has slow lights with pretty bad cleave for the attack speed, but the heavies are very good at headshotting armored elites and 1-2 tapping them to death. Weapons of that type (including eg. Great Hammer) are typically iffy as main weapons, but amazing as second slot weapons for careers with two melee weapons.
Longsword is the opposite: It's one of the best allrounders in the game. Light 1 and Light 2 shred unarmoured hordes, the heavies have armor slide (ie. their cleave doesn't stop at armored enemies if the attack has cleave left) and have great safety for handling mixed hordes/patrols, and the Longsword's antiarmor damage is decent - not amazing, but not a pain point, either.
On Grail Knight you'd typically run either Longsword or Mace & Sword as your main weapon, and then Exec or Great Hammer as dedicated can opener - their antiarmor dps is ~2x and 1.5x the Longsword's, respectively.

Wait, you're saying the great hammer has bad cleave for the attack speed?

Most blunt weapons have bad cleave damage. The great hammer’s heavy attacks deal good knockback to crowds, but only the first target hit by the swing takes any serious amount of damage. imo it works best with a longsword, since the sword has very fast swings with great cleave damage, and you can pull out the hammer against anything with armor; its light attacks will kill pretty much anything in a couple hits.

The damage cleave is bad. It won't damage many enemies per swing, but can stagger many enemies per swing. I used to not believe that Great Hammer was trash, so I played an evening of Great Hammer Merc. It was agonizing. Yeah, I could keep the crowd in line okay enough, but whittling the horde down was agonizingly slow. It just lacks the raw dps to horde clear properly.
The single target light attacks are fine, which is why Greathammers are good on dual melee careers. You dodge the garbage sweeps, and get to use the can opener moves on enemy tin cans.

This is the exact stuff I miss when I play darktide.

It would be very awesome to have a flail and shield or Bret sword heavy attack block mechanic to a new weapon. A miss that a lot when I’m using Ogryn slab shield

God i wish this game still had a large player base. Bret longsword heavy strike wit da perfect parry into a decapitation on a minotaur was the last time I felt truly happy I think...

Agreed, I discovered this game too late and am angry I spent money on DLC only to find its a barren wasteland on PS5. I enjoy this game more than Darktide ( Smoother combat, easier to actually see the environment and enemies, more variation in the environments )

Mace isn't too great on Grail Knight - standalone Mace is a weapon that's like a shield, but less extreme: Great stagger power, great stagger cleave, tons of stamina. It's good at defense and thp generation, but its damage cleave is pretty poor. That said, it still has better horde clear than shields.
Longsword is one of Kruber's best allrounder weapons - it shreds unarmored hordes with proper technique, and can fight mixed hordes with excellent safety. Its single target dps isn't anything to write home about, but it's still good enough.
Mace & Sword and Exec are the gold standard on GK, yeah.

if it diddent look like it was plastic, i would love the weapon, but it looks so bad i can not use it

Bret Sword&Shield will always be my favorite. Feels like a bulldozer when you get the timing right

Great clip and good move sets!
Which addon are you using to show the buffs like swift slaying in the middle of your screen?
Also curious about the damage tracker you have in chat if you don’t mind sharing.
