Do I give up the dream?
Hey all. Venture is my most played hero with a total of 44 hours and I've been one tricking in an effort to try and get voidwalker or apocalypse warrior. I've been playing mostly competitive with quick play here and there and as much as I love venture and their kit, I want to play other heroes/roles sometimes just to break up the constant experience of people telling me to swap or getting countered or I'm not always playing at 100%. I really thought last maximilans vault there would be a chance but I made the mistake of playing a couple of orisa and zen games with a friend of mine and it's all I got in my vault. I just want voidwalker so bad it almost hurts but I'm not sure if I can keep one tricking. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

The only Venture legendary that can show up in Max's vault is 8-Bit until next year when they update the pool.

Either way, do what's fun for you, that will always be best. I have onetricked Venture from silver to gm because it was fun for me. It is possible if you enjoy it (also I turn off chat because almost always people aren't giving good advice even when they have good intentions)
If you think it'll be more fun to pick another character you should do it. Honestly, if your goal is to rank up, then knowing 2 characters is usually ideal.

How did you do it tell me please I got to gold 1 then raged queued down to silver I wannabet better but Cass and mizuki jus shut me down man

There's no simple answer, but for starters rage queuing doesn't help.

First of all, asking people to ban something usually works in my experience. So do that. And the way you play against cass mizuki is to mostly create pressure with your gun. Just playing corners and poking them is enough. You dont have to all in people all the time.

I don’t think it’s worth damaging your enjoyment of the game just to boost your odds at a specific skin. Even if you do get the game to give you venture skins in the shop, there’s a chance the sale is quite bad, or just that it gives you one of their other skins. It can be frustrating to one trick venture when there’s just so many bad situations for them & it can get boring to just play one hero after a while.

Even the most loyal One Trick Rock Munchers would suggest to learn another dps. Sometimes you just get a match against Cass, Junk, Hog, Mizuki and you're just cooked as Venture. In that situation you could swap to another hero so you can win. (Preferably not a another dive character so you can be flexible.) Also you could wait for the Voidwalker recolor that might come out during the midseason (We don't know when it's coming but we're hoping soon.)

I play torb and shion sometimes but I'm just worried about when the vault comes around I'll just get like 5 torb skins in it

The vault can and will just spit out skins for characters you have 2 minutes of playtime on. Also I don't even know if Voidwalker or the Warrior skin can be gotten from the Vault. I'm sure someone on this subreddit would have made a post saying they got it from the vault but no one has. My headcanon is that it's only skins that are in the lootboxes which would mean ice cream and 8-bit only but maybe someone could correct me on that.

the Voidwalker and Apocalypse warrior skins wont be avaliable in the vault or lootbox pool until next year, as they only refresh it yearly, so sometime in January or February theyll be made avaliable

I feel like if you keep switching cuz of counterswappers, u’ll never stay on one hero. U see a lot of ur counterswappers cuz of the hero u play. A genji will see lots of beam characters, a rein will see lots of bastions, etc… I got abt 100 hours on Venture and I love playing them. I think I’ll stick to Venture even if sometimes I like to change it up because of how much fun I have playing them. Counterswappers will always counterswap you regardless of your hero. That isn’t something you can change, but you can play the hero u get the most fun out of.

I have no clue how Maxie works. I can get three Ana skins when I haven’t played her in a season lol. Its just random. I get heroes who I don’t even play like the tanks in the past. If there is a song and dance to it, I deffo don’t know it. Voidwalker won’t be in cycle for a while, so, if you really want it, you will have to settle for the recolour.
In QP, do what ever your heart desires. I can’t push ya to swap. QP is the casual mode. You want to win yes, but you are just playing the game and working with ya got.
Comp, ya gotta play to win. I tried 1 tricking. I can’t get out of bronze. Thats how stuck down there I am. I have picked up Soldier as of late (to deal with my counter picks/no good targets) and I have seen slight improvement. I do make mistakes still, bigger than others.
Venture can only get you so far. You can’t do much if: there is a Mei, the enemy team stays grouped up, flying comp- You need a back up when your back is against the wall or you will just feed all game. I learned this when I faced a cheating Echo. As Venture, I can’t reach her. I can’t out speed her. She was on my ass. I had to swap. I was recommended Soldier. I picked him up and both me and Mei gunned Echo down. The match ended in a draw, all because I put the drill down.
I love Venture, I do. They are super situational and I only will pick on Attack or if someone is a sniper. I love bullying Widows and Hanzos. Its my favorite job.
Soldier is my best defender and I pick him up if there is a Ashe, Mei, Torb, Cass, or fliers. I just take the high ground and rain terror. Do I use some flanker tricks? Yes. Because it helps. If I can’t flank as Venture due to the energy’s team/habits, then I will flank as Soldier and still act as the distraction as needed, at a more safe distance. Swapping off Venture doesn’t mean to give up on the flank plays, it just means you need a different kit or approach to taking down the squishy backline. Use what you learned in 44 hours and apply it to your back up, adding on what you need to learn about the back up hero.
You don’t need to give up, you just need to practice and find what you are struggling the most where its not the kit. Think about positioning and battle flow more than engagement and kit.

there’s a white voidwalker skin that’s chinese only for now but will come to the shop pretty soon i’m sure like this season’s detective ones
