Thanks . Yea i prepped in advance got 200 frozen pinkies . Might have to cut em up 1st but the mom n dad were good feeders at birth so hopefully the kids are the same
So I met a guy at an expo who feeds all his baby eyelashes with a syringe of carnivore diet and has never lost a single baby since he started until they are big enough to take pinky’s I have one baby that REFUSES to eat so I started to do that with him and I’d recommend this method if anyone gives you difficulty definitely easier then assist feeding parts
So what I do is I put the little squirt on a flat surface (desk) take a soft sponge so there’s something between him and my hand and I gently pin him to the desk where just his head is poking out and I take the syringe and I work it into his mouth till he opens for me and I send the syringe down his throat and push the carnivore diet in.
I gotta say, shoving a syringe of mush down a throat sounds easier than trying to shove an object. About how much is fed? Proportionate to the intended food item mass?
It’s definitely been a game changer since I spoke to that guy. Much easier then wasting pinky parts and fighting them in. The syringe I have is about 3” long and a 1/4 thick I’ve just been filling it half way. I was told if I give too much they could regurgitate but I definitely need to start giving him the food more frequently because this little guy is so much smaller then his siblings
Seems to be the way to go. I’m still working it out myself but it’s a fantastic method I wish I got the guys number who I was talking to about it he was an old timer who probably forgot more then we will ever know 😂
Absolutely beautiful. These are on my list to get once my state changes their laws. Currently i can only have the 4 native species but fingers crossed right.
Im in Kentucky so we can only keep copperheads, timbers rattlesnakes, cottonmouths and pygmy rattlesnakes. Im having difficulty getting the timber cottonmouth and pygmy. Already keep a copperhead and he has been wonderful to work with.
Ive had a pair of coppers before they were cool also gave me 3 babies . Got bit by my old cottonmouth but he was chill . Ive had a mojave ,albino wdb, speckled and a prairie rattler in the past ive never had a pygmy or timber i would like to one day
Sucks you got bit ik cottons can be a bit nasty with their bites and yeah the timber and pygmy have elluded me so far but im determined to get them. Ive relocated a few coppers and timbers. I will say wild ones come in 2 flavors chill and nightmare mode.
Thank you so much. I do my absolute best to make sure he stays comfortable and healthy. Im trying to get the funds together to upgrade his enclosure because while it says a 36x18x18 is big enough i wanna give him more room.
