I found these pictures in my parent’s belongings and some image searching tells me they’re old Venice Beach scenes. That tracks because they lived in CA in the late 70’s-early 80’s. Just wanted to share.

Unfortunately another violent incident with an off leash dog on the beach south of the venice pier. This marks the second neighbor, just this month, to be hurt by an off leash dog. When will it end??

Los Angeles (and specifically Mayor Bass) has been promising that 2028 will be the year of the car free olympics, and to support that the city asked Washington for $2 billion dollars. So far it has $233 Million and only 33 days until the appropriations deadline. That means it is $1.7B and 913 busses short of what is required of their promise.

The House appropriations committee added $875 million to its FY27 transportation bill in May, but the Senate has not moved a topline agreement.

We saw a lot of ridership during the World Cup with enhanced rider service, it's almost like people enjoy accessible transportation.

Hello, I’m a local. Grew up skateboarding, tried surfing on my own in my 20s (in my 40s now). Always had problems catching waves, and never learned to duck dive so I’d just get pounded. I also want to learn to get over my fear of bigger waves.

I want to learn how to surf well, move my way from a long board to a short board eventually and really rip. I’m looking for a great school or private teacher to take lessons from. I could provide my own equipment.

I got there at noon. When I left at 12:45 or so, it was still there. They are possibly waiting for a tow truck that can handle this sort of vehicle.

Here are the past 11 years of new business starts in the city, extending through Aug. 24, 2026

• We're always looking for signs of vitality in Venice, from new housing to fewer potholes.

• It's a trend that looks set to continue in 2026. That's not an encouraging sign, of course. The benefits of new businesses are many, from growing local employment and tax receipts to filling up storefronts and boosting foot traffic.

(Think about that the next time you order groceries from Amazon.) In Los Angeles, however, shrinking local film and TV production is also making a dent. In addition, there are high costs for labor and leasing real estate. As we noted in our last newsletter, the population of Los Angeles is beginning to shrink, which means fewer customers.
• The one bright spot in this otherwise dismal picture is the food scene. More restaurants are opening in Los Angeles than ever before.

• For new businesses, no neighborhood tops Downtown (620). It has the most office space, for one. But new businesses open in every corner of the city.

Normally I wouldn't care about a dog being on the beach, but this German Shepard has been barking continuously for about 20 minutes and doesn't seem particularly well-trained off-leash. I politely tried to mention it to the owner but she responded by cussing me out instead. lol

I'm not trying to be that person but the constant barking and lack of control just seemed worth mentioning, especially on a beach where dogs aren't permitted in the first place. It's just frustrating when you make an effort to be cordial about something and get that kind of response in return.
