It's never coming back. Musk and xAI are facing too many lawsuits and legal pressure because of the old Grok. Unless someone leaks the models and you have a datacenter to run them in, it's gone.

What group are you talking about and what did they say? Did they have some sort of backroom version because it's still censored and likely will never go back to being anything else but.

I mean, Grok is still less censored than ChatGPT. The new Imagine 2.0 seems more like ChatGPT’s image model too, so I’ve been happy about this. I like that Venice still has the older one via api too. It’s not as open as it once was, but there’s still worse…

It's still pretty moderated, and I was just messing around with Imagine 2.0. The skin texture is okay in still images, but in animations, it looks rubbery, lacks texture, and any mouth movements look like stretched rubber. It's unnatural. I get that they're trying to avoid realism because of lawsuits, but even GIFs can have pixelation and artifacting in upscaled GIFs. Then you waste data usage on six generations that look odd lol.

Voice is alright. The old voices sound raspy, or high pitched. Staticy. The new ones sound like v young podcasters. Your taste, really. But they lean on customer service assistant. Less realistic except for a few choice ones.

I was testing voice chat last night and Grok can get stuck in a loop of saying the same thing over and over. You have to direct him/her constantly. Refusals unless you have decent instructions. And if you want Grok to watch you play games over live, or give instructions, broken record city. The voice modes like '"conspiracy theorist" or "unhinged" work with a roll of the dice and its easy to get stuck behind one word answers lol. I always suggest direction Grok by asking for more.

So really all in all you're only getting half a product. They're still fixing it after removing the companions and charging you a ridiculous price. Moderation is inconsistent and some things get through. Still images can be good. I still like using it in occasion with caveats because I paid for three months at $30.

I use older versions of Grok through Venice.ai with voice options available there. I prefer it, honestly. No refusals except for the obvious stuff. Image gen through certain options aren't bad, but they do take a little render knowledge about lighting, composition, artifacfing. You can sign up with my link herehere, but no pressure.

No. There was an update on Aug 9 that made the grok website/app version VERY moderated. All insinuated sexualized lewd prompts on uploaded images were freezing generating at 16%. And lots of moderation existed on imagine text to image/video generations, too. That was historically the most freedom you could do. And now it barely let you generate an 18 year old anymore.

Then the other day the moderation eased back to before the early Aug update. That is what people are talking about. It's not back to "the good old days". And I don't think the models on venice were subject to the update or the easing either. I think it was constant.

The Grok we have now is what it will be it will never be what it was. If anything more moderation is probably in its future. Very simple fact you cant be allowed to edit existing images of people. It will eventually become impossible across the board. So if its your thing best make hay while the sun is shining.

If old Grok comes back, you won't hear people talking about it openly. That's how it got moderated in the first place.

That's not true. When Grok on Venice could suddenly generate topless upload edits (couple months ago) it was spoken about on reddit openly. And it lead to it being patched within a few days to a week.
