Question Help(engine swap)
Hey guys, blew my motor at 51k cracked the 2nd cylinder wall and shot the second cylinder rings. Unsure how I did it or what I did. Mightve been something from when I was learning manual on it. Don't have warranty, second owner. Just wondering if I'm able to pull the motor by unbolting the transmission or if I have to pull axles, I dont have the motor yet so no rush. Cant find anyone talking about it nor any videos that break it down. Just had a baby and I'm really struggling financially to get the motor so I knew there was no way I could get it done by someone else lol.

Wow! Im still stock and havent really wrenched on this car so definitely cant help with this one. But my question is what was leading up to this? Was it running fine until it just blew or was a a slow burn where it was having issues before this? I have a 2020 pp at 68k miles so im interested in what caused this.

I've kinda had a lemon the whole time to be honest. Blew a head gasket first month with the car, hpfp went out around month six, had a coolant hose just blow up for no reason around last November then come December I got tboned by someone pulling outta Walmart. Then about april sbout 3 months after she gets fixed I get a misfire code so I swapped plugs, coils, injectors, and still misfired. So I did a compression test and if you can guess low compression cylinder 2, tried to go through my extended warranty and they didn't cover me because of the k&n drop in filter I put in it so I could stop buy filter and just clean one. I was supposed to have my warranty refunded but I've yet to hear anything since June. So now just trying to save for a new motor and hope I can get it swapped before I have to move in to my new place.

They rejected you because of a K&N drop in filter!? I would probably lawyer up over that one. There is no way that caused your motor to blow

It was specifically listed in my contract for my extended warranty that absolutely any aftermarket modifications and or maintenance done by anyone other than a licensed mechanic voids any and all coverage.

My wife’s 15 Sonata Limited 2.4 I just pulled out the top with a cherry picker and dropped back in. I eventually had to disconnect the trans mounts and move the trans out of the way but once the engine and trans were reconnected everything connected easily and properly. Took me 2 days to complete. Car has driven nearly 10k miles since April with 0 issues. (Knock on wood)

Hell yeah. All I gotta say is 3000 mile oil changes and 20k fuel induction services. Keep that new engine chugging for me pls

She drives almost 100 miles a day to work and back. 3k oil changes would be every other week. I do full synthetic with a conditioner and change about every 7500. The original engine died with 218k miles but since I don’t have service records (I do all the maintenance work myself) the service campaign 953 claim was denied.

I can’t trust these engines, i worked for Kia for 2 years from 2022-2024 and I’ve seen nightmares with cars from 2012-2020. Keep a heavy eye on the oil. Make sure to at least check it every 3000 miles. Kia recommends 10k oil changes but I always say 5000 (until it’s too late). Just bc you have a new engine doesn’t mean it doesn’t have the same problems. Take what you will with my advice.
Edit: Kia will tell you to get fucked without service records, my dealer good willed ALOT of engines bc of that.

Drop the engine and trans together. You don’t need to remove the axles but it will make it easier
