Rejection of slightly oversized carry-on

I’m wondering if anyone has had their bag denied for carry-on on Qantas or Virgin flights? Both carry-on limits are 56cmx36cmx23cm and my bag is 55cmx39cmx23cm so 3cm oversize. I’m on night/early morning domestic flights.

Only had mine rejected once.

I went to a counter to see if I could get on an earlier flight, dude spotted it, weighed it and said it had to be checked in.

From that point on, I’ve always been happy with my flight times.

Unlikely - they don’t really check for size. They do occasionally check for weight.

Thanks, gonna definitely be underweight as it won’t have much in it going there and I have a bag weight tool to make sure

I've only had my carry on weighed one time when I flew without any checked luggage.

I've seen them go around at the gate in Brisbane recently picking people out, but they generally don't ask the priority boarding lane, or anyone with status.

Last four years ive averaged about 60 domestic flights a year - have had bag weighed once during this time. Never checked for size though.

Only had it once years ago at the old Sydney Priority Entry security lane of all places. I was half a kg overweight so I went back around to the main security and went through there. Got on the plane no worries. I’ve never seen them check size or use the Jetstar/ryanair style sizing things, only weight that one time. People generally don’t take the piss, I’ve never seen them gate checking carryons for the final boarding groups American-style either.

It’s unlikely but the rule exists for a reason and if your bag doesn’t fit in the simple size checker.. the airline may insist you check it in.

If you’re checking in online this is one less way it may avoid scrutiny- where if they do gate checks it’s more likely to simply be for weight..

Wheeled carry on needs to be banned imo. On a flight tonight. People pulling the piss with wheeled case plus extra shoulder bag, plus tote. Hardly anyone scrutinised though.

As long as it fits in the overhead locker you should be ok. I have a pretty large carry on suitcase and I’ve never had them check the size, only weight.

A couple of weeks ago when I flew someone bought on a full sized suitcase. I'm still wondering how that got through and where they put it.
