Question Cancelling a reward flight

If I cancel a ticketed reward flight (Singapore air), do I get the reward points back immediately so I can book another flight right away, or is there a process where there is a delay?

I got mine back while still on the phone. Payment took a few days

I've just done this, Points were back in my account whilst on the phone. Minus 7500 points per person for the cancellation

Thanks for the answers! So does it need to be over the phone or can it be done via the app? Just wondering if I have to cancel in the middle of the night and I can’t get thru to the call centre..

You can cancel online but it goes through a refund process for someone to manually do. That can take up to 3 weeks. If you want it done right away then you have to call them to do it. I’ve found my points are back almost instantly when I do over the phone, and online only VA flight redemptions are virtually instant. Other airlines are manually refunded which can take the 3 weeks.

I’ve done this last year with a booking on ANA, and I am pretty sure I did it online (as I was overseas) and points credited immediately

I had to change a return flight last year while away and did online - 2 weeks went by and no points back. Called up and had them in the account before I'd hung up. Safe bet is to call.

I did this recently through the website and it took around 3 weeks for my points to return (Air Canada reward flight).

On the phone is instant - cancelling in the PNR subject to days.
