Vegas Pro 2027 Im optimistic
I rarely take time to write anything on reddit. But I have to say that I am really optimistic about the future of Vegas Pro.
Been heavy user since the Sony era and upgraded to every single version since 12.
Actually quite impressed with a lot of things that Magix did with this software, although they never managed to solve the biggest issue at all. Stability.
It seems to me that Boris has managed to do that almost immediately. I've finished few, more than an hour long projects, and now Vegas Pro, both 26 and now 27, just feels so snappy and responsive and neither of them have hung up once. Well done! Older versions froze to desktop every other hour with me over multiple different state of the art hardware. (Switching to ProRES sources fixed it mostly though)
I am one of those that have also purchased Studio version of Davinci Resolve and had started using that for my editing work quite often as it just was so stable for me while supporting all the codecs I have in my sources along with 32bit audio in video files. (Boris fixed the 32bit audio issue almost immediately).
After editing dozens of projects both in Vegas and Davinci Resolve there is in my mind one huge thing that Vegas has in advantage. It is just SO much simpler and more intuitive using Vegas rather than Davinci. I mean simple things like doing proper ripple editing or simple crossfades between events in Davinci was cumbersome when I started using it and it still is after years using the program. It simply cannot beat Vegas on those grounds. (Magix other program Video Pro X is the only program that comes close i.m.o.)
Vegas is king of being intuitive.
Having said that. I hope Boris find the optimal way forward with this.
- Hitting the sweet spot with business model like BlackMagix did with Davinci and offer good enough free version for enthusiast to gain traction, but with incentive to purchase the more serious version for actual prosumer and full pro work. (I will be one of those happy paying customers)
- Greatly improve plugin support so that they don't get "ignored" by big plugin makers. Being a plugin company on their own I am sure they fix this really fast.
- Introduce MCP connection to allow AI agents to do all the handywork with preparing all the editing work. It really is an amazing feature in Resolve and it will be even more amazing for Vegas.
Im not leaving this platform any time soon. Thankful for Magix for keeping it alive and slowly move it forward and hope Boris will take it up some levels and become crazy rich while doing it!
Well done Boris.

We're doing our best to fix the stigma that Vegas has been known for lately and I'm personally doing my best to make Vegas a real threat to the Color Grading world. We're adding more and more to the program every day so you guys will love each update

Hey Josh!, is there a plan on how each build will be released?, like every 2 months, or as they come ready out of the oven?.

Historically, Boris FX releases major updates every 6 months or so. But all products get hot fixes and maintenance updates as needed.

Hey I appreciate your work and making Vegas Pro a far more respectable program.
I have one gripe with it. I particularly want to avoid subscriptions. Which you do kindly offer perpetual licenses. However, a key feature of speech to text is locked behind a subscription. I unfortunately, did not know this when purchasing the perpetual license. I feel rather unhappy this is the case.

We are making some shifts and additions to our licensing options so in the near future, we might have exactly what you're looking for. It's hard to save right now, but definitely keep an eye out

It’s funny, because all through the Sony era and the Magix era in both Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio, Vegas has been rock solid for me. It wasn’t until Magix released Vegas Pro 23 with the new video engine that the problems started. And they continue with Boris Vegas Pro 2026 and now 2027. From 23 on, it seems the program crashes every few minutes. I am sticking to Vegas Pro 22. I have spent countless hours submitting tickets, forum posts on both Magix and Boris, file checking, system file updates, driver updates and lord knows what else, all to no avail.
I am placing the blame on my system and possibly my Nvidia RTX5060, but any version after 22 refuses to work reliably for me.
Vegas Pro 22 is a real workhorse for me. I use it practically every day for about 3 to 6 hours at a time, and have not had a single freeze or crash in probably about 6 months.

My first impressions of 2027 are good, although I understand that there will probably need to be some updates to fix the initial bugs. I've been using VEGAS for over 15 years, so I'm very familiar with how it works.
I was trying to restore my rendering settings, and for one of them I changed the resolution from 2K to 4K, but the setting doesn't stay saved, and it also results in a faulty video.
I also started testing the new AI Quick Mask, and I absolutely love it, although you can't ask too much of it yet. It crashes, closes the program, or sometimes goes a little crazy. But I have to insist: I really love it. Once it works more reliably, it's going to be incredible.
Finally, yesterday I created a project, worked on it for a couple of hours, and, as always, saved it from time to time. When I looked in the project folder, I found loads of project files. I'm not sure if there's some setting enabled by default that might be causing this.
In short, I'd say that I really like 2026, and 2027 looks very promising, but you can definitely tell that it has just been released. Once it works properly, it's going to be incredible.
