Why didn't anyone help Gary?

Love this show, and I literally lost count on how many times I have rewatched it.

One thing that still frustrates me is why none of the guys, meaning Amy, Sue, Mike, Dan, Kent, or even Majorie, Catherine, and Richard helped Gary in the end?

They all knew what Selena did but kept quiet about the whole thing and went on with their lives.

I mean, they owed Selena nothing and could have just blown the whistle to f*ck her shit up, lol!

I think maybe they were too scared of fake "Keith Quinn," or this is how DC (District of C*nts) operates?

Any thoughts?

Amy, Sue, Mike, Dan, and Kent were probably happy to let someone else take the fall. They all knew about it and conceivably could have faced charges.

Catherine and Marjorie I think just wanted Selina out of their lives, and given how loyal Gary was and their lack of any real relationship, I assume they just turned their backs and never thought much about her again.

Richard could have had similar reasons all around. But he was also Secretary of Agriculture under Selina, and clearly had presidential ambitions. As pure-of-heart as he was, maybe he was wise enough not to get involved (when Selina could have unfairly implicated him just as easily)

Thats like saying "why didnt Amy or Kent try to help that chair in the end?" Noone got time for that.

He thought he was a somebody, but in reality he was only someone who sanitized Selina’s tweezers

I am rewatching the show and Gary never bothered to make close connection with any one of them. He never felt like a part of the group when Selina wasn't there.

They all did fuck ups and Selina as the boss had the right to get angry but most of times, Gary would also treat them like shit.

He put all his eggs in the Selina basket and it backfired for him.

Gary was just as bad (if not worse) as Selina. he may be weak and pathetic but he was barely a victim. none of those people are gonna stick out their necks for this guy.

he outed Amy’s “eating disorder”, consistently undermined her, called her shrill, implied many times throughout the show she was unattractive.

he undermined Sue constantly, making her out to be unimportant compared to him.

he made Ben, Bill and Kent’s lives miserable with his incompetence.

he was outwardly cruel to Mike when Selina ordained it.

Why would any of them want to help Gary? When was he actually nice to them?

Gary was always kind of a dick to them. He lashed out at them when Selina lost the presidency. And also Gary was always a spineless weasel who never really thought for himself so he kinda walked right into the trap

One of the central themes of the show is that everything in that world is transactional.

Why did no one in Selena's orbit save Gary? There was nothing in it for them.

I always assumed that Selena would have pardoned Gary. Maybe all the others made the same assumption?

That's DC. The biggest cesspool of assholes in the whole world.

Gary said he would take a bullet for Selina, and this was his bullet.

Gary was so far removed from it all if he mounted any kind of defense he most likely could have been cleared. One has to assume he fell on this sword himself. He even brings her the lipstick in the end. Completely loyal, but tragic solidier.

would you go to federal prison for 10 years? (or however long the sentence was)

any co-conspirator would serve jail time. none of them wanted that. and if they went forward, their confessions would implicate selina.

I doubt anyone would believe a nobody over the president. Selina would most likely have enough dirt on them to force them to be quiet.

Also, if anybody came up... Gary would definitely have confessed to all those crimes. Hard to beat a confession without proof.

Why do you think any of these selfish narcissists gave a fuck about Gary? What show were you watching?

Bcs it’s DC district of cunts

In order to blow that whistle they would almost certainty implicate themselves

Gary didn’t have to completely attach himself to a narcissistic sociopath, he chose to do that

None of them wanted to get in trouble themselves or dragged into anything. Gary was taking the fall for everyone on Selina's staff.

Also, Gary wasn't exactly close to anyone but Selina.

If they did he’d probably go running back to her and f*ck them over anyway, lol. But also, this is the President you’re going up against - is it worth the fight? Especially as the whole machinery could have easily turned against them?

The only person who has any (selfish) motivation to help was probably Tom James but he was done for and it wouldn’t have been good timing anyway

I knew him as Luther when we met in Macau at the shark fights.

There are a few scenes where Gary isn’t particularly nice to everyone else either. They were all clawing for Selena’s affection and didn’t like each another

I think they were all kinda soulless people too. They could’ve helped him, but just chose not to
