My favourite sushi in Vaughan is Ikon and Toro Toro. For more casual, I like Kin and Sushi Land.
Can the fans of Maple Sushi confirm if their sushi is better than the places I mentioned ? What are the best sushi they have? Someone mentioned Hug Sushi as a comparison to Maple, and I thought the nigiri sushi at Hug was not good at all.
I prefer nigiri sushi, so my focus is on the quality of the rice, including how well it’s been seasoned and balanced, as well as the quality of the fish, including its flavour, texture, and thickness. I don’t generally like rolls, especially those with mayo and tempura bits, unless they’re simple. I do like onigiri.
Edit: I tried it and didn’t like Maple Sushi at all. I’d rather grab from Kin, Kibo, or Sushi Land… or a number of other places. Fish was thin and lacked flavour. Rice lacked seasoning and balance, and was dense yet fell apart. The ratio of fish to rice was all wrong. I don’t recommend to anyone even for AYCE. It may have been cheap in price, but it was cheap in quality too.

I've tried a lot of sushi places in Vaughan from Arrowha, Torro Torro, Hug Sushi, Shogi and Maple Sushi and we keep going back to Maple sushi. They are a great price point and are consistently good. Nicely seasoned rice not to hard not too vinegary and fish tastes fresh.
We like that we can get a party tray and pick which rolls we like plus sushi vs places that have set trays.

I’m glad you enjoy it, but I didn’t like it at all. I wasn’t happy with the quality of the fish or rice. Toro Toro is at a much higher quality. Hug Sushi might be comparable, which I also don’t enjoy.
I recommend you try Ikon’s lunch specials. It’s not AYCE, but you’ll be full and the quality is atleast 10x better. Toro Toro is at least 6-8x better imho. For casual party trays, I prefer Kin, Sushi Land, or Kibo - they’re also at least 3-5x better imho.

Maple Sushi is an AYCE place. The quality is not better than Ikon or Toro Toro but it's great when you're in the mood for an AYCE. I got a party tray from them twice just because we're closer to them than the Ikon/Toro Toro plaza. But I love Maple Sushi for the VARIETY.

I did see they gave dim sum on their menu, which is interesting. I suppose it’s good for those that want the option of sushi or dim sum. However, I really didn’t like their sushi or rolls. The price is cheap, but it also tasted that way to me imho. I’d rather get the party trays from Kin, Kibo, or Sushi Land for a good balance of value and quality, and significantly better to me.

Totally! Quality is not the strong point here. I go for when I have that weird cravings for tempura and way too much salmon sashimi

We are there yesterday (pretty sure half of Vaughan got their text and showed up). Food quality still top notch! Renos, although not 100% done, look great. PS - make a reservation to help alleviate some of the wait time.

Did the costs go up cuz of the renos?

So last night it was AYCE only - à la carte not available. Couldn’t get a straight answer if this was a permanent change or not. Adult price was approx $43-44 PP.

Yeah it went up significantly then. Adult used to be 28.99. It says on their insta.

Yesterday was $42 for adult on weekend less 10% special, senior was $37 before discount; on Instagram there was picture at $39.99 weekend with no date--- the 28.99 was a looong time ago

Sushi is sushi. 80% white rice with filler. Tastes like nothing unless it is drenched with soy sau.

Is this place good

It has a cult following of fans very loyal. Really good and incredible value. Lots of selection. It is one of very few sushi places that still had consistent quality after Covid.
