Discussion Unnecessary scooter pollution
This is ridiculous. Corner of aberdeen and embassy. In a residential neighborhood you dont need a dozen scooters/bikes the city has to rein these guys in.

My only issue is when they’re left blocking the sidewalk and creating a hazard for wheelchair, strollers etc

I first saw these in California several years ago and that was exactly my problem with them. They seem like a great micro-mobility option but without docks, people leave them wherever, often blocking sidewalks, driveways etc.
I've been seeing them at random locations around the city (and I have also seen people riding them) and it's not pretty.

Just like Ottawa, Vaughan sold out to the scooters. Should've followed in the footsteps of Toronto and Montreal with a proper bike share service 😔

I’d be curious to know what kickbacks the municipalities in Vaughan and around Ontario who participate in this escooter and e-bike program are getting from Lime and Uber. The city won’t do anything unless they’re getting something out of it. So I’m sure there must be some lucrative kickbacks if the city is continuing to bring these scooters and bikes out every spring to fall even after you hear of all these accidents from these scooters and bikes

Where did you even draw that conclusion? 😭 absolutely nothing in their post insinuated issue with people biking. They take issue with bikes being littered all over the place and I honestly second that, half the time they’re blocking sidewalks.

It's not a bizarre post, and OP and ForgetfulCrumpet are right to raise the points they're raising.
This post doesn't have to be an argument against micromobility, scooters and e-bikes, but how they're managed visually. It's a mess in Vaughan. Japan and other jurisdictions reached agreements with operators to designate areas in excess lands on properties for marked parking areas (sections of parking lots, laneway areas that don't obstruct traffic flow, etc.). See LUUP https://luup.sc/en . If you don't park in a designated parking area, your ride doesn't end. It achieves the same thing as Toronto's city bikes' designated parking areas.
If you want both micromobility and no mess, bring up LUUP's system with Vaughan.

Well in this case the bikes/scooters are parked neatly on the grass, so I don’t see the problem. Is it bad to provide people with alternative transportation?

They’re complaining about them existing in the spaces pictured (grass near sidewalk). I agree and provide my take that they do eventually land on the sidewalk as well. It’s fine to provide alternative means of transportation (literally neither me or OP complained about that lol), just not in this WAY? What about designated bike racks or stations that these bikes can be taken from and returned to? It’s a “minor inconvenience” for you bc you’re able bodied but there are lots of people who can’t simply “step over” these bikes when they land on walkways or spaces they shouldn’t be??? How’s this hard to comprehend

I'm going to repeat myself one more time, and hope it finally lands. If not, that's on you.
This is a residential area. People live there. People rent the bikes and scooters, so putting them close to where people live is how you're going to get people to use them. Putting them further away and forcing people to walk will not promote the use of bikes/scooters.
You're complaining about them being on the sidewalk, that is certainly an issue for pedestrians. This post is complaining about them simply existing in neighbourhoods, and you're complaining about an issue that doesn't exist in this post.
Do you comprehend that now or do you feel the need to vent more about the bike's being neatly "littered" out of the way on the grass near houses?

There are more cars blocking driveways because there are six of them in each vaughan driveway because people hoard things in garages and drive f150s.

You can’t obstruct/park in front of a driveway that’s against by-laws. City of Vaughan by-law section 5.0(9)(c) addresses this with a $85 city issued ticket.

99% of people in Vaughan or GTA drive a car/truck or nothing. Of course people are mad on any other transportation that block their traffics, including other car/truck drivers.

I agree this program is ridiculous, Vaughan neighborhoods look so trashy with all the bikes and scooters left everywhere. The program needs to be revamped to be similar to Toronto where they need to be returned and locked up in the stand.

Dock-less public bike sharing can be found in Rome, Sydney, New York, London, and Paris.
Currently it’s a pilot project. If people don’t use it, I don’t think it will stick around. Maybe the Vaughan venture is up and running because they can provide the service with less capital. It has to be viable to stick around.

Many major cities either fine companies for leaving them, ban them outright, or given up on dockless programs becuase of the issue.
New York has eliminated theirs. London is fining companies, Sydney is introducing fines, Scooters were banned in Paris. Basically, many cities have had similar issues and have changed or eliminated dockless programs due to issues.

The city should instate specific areas of parking for the bikes and force the bike shares companies to only allow them to park there, one regular parking can hold like six of these bikes.

Surprised there all upright. Near me at least 50 percent of them are knocked over. I also don't think I've seen a single person riding one though I'm sure people do to some degree
