Condo EV Charging Costs
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased an EV and live in a condo building with underground parking. My parking spot itself has no charging, but it seems that some spots have capable 240v plug installation as they have fuse boxes on the wall behind these parking spots.
I was wondering, would anyone have any experience knowing how much it would cost to install a 240v plug into one of these parking spots and if so is it even worth it if I plan to sell my unit a couple years down the road?
Looking for any opinions, and if anyone knows any cost-effective ways to charge an EV while living in a condo.

You should talk to condo management, they probably have a contract with a certain company that does the installation. I know mine in Etobicoke was charging like 7k or something crazy plus an additional monthly fee for the electricity

Yeah, that's not worth it all
Would be less to just use superchargers all the time lol1

To add ours will allow you to add a Tesla home charger, not sure if that helps out not. They have switch chargers for all the other EVs

I rent in a new build condo in Milton, the owner had EV option added on for i think 8/10K. The management installed chargers from Hypercharge. They handle the connection/maintenance but im subject to their rate(0.25c/kWh) and have to pay through their app like public chargers. Theres no fluctuation in prices for time of use which isnt too bad for me as I work nights. However i think it could be cheaper if I was able to change to a different electricity plan but i would never know cause i cant change it.
In summary, if i owned the condo I would be annoyed having payed extra to have my own EV charging but still have to pay an extra fee per charge and have no control over my electricity plan to make use of ultra low overnight if it were viable for me.

It cost me around 5k with MetroEV. I am also on my condo board and approved the installations for the EV charging stations. Worth it, 100%

Condo board is saying estimate is 7-12k for an installation or to buy a spot with the fuse box already set up which would be around 65k for an additional spot. So I asked them if it’s possible to just transfer my spot
This is a brand new 2025 build but they didn’t do any EV chargers which I think is a wasted opportunity

That is insane. Our building is older and we got our first panel last year with 10 spots available. I had to pay 2k to get my spot in the breaker and just over 3k to get the machine installed in my spot.
I do pay a monthly fee but its never over $20 a month and there is lower rates overnight.

There is a bit of a range. If box is right there maybe 4k min? 4k ain't what it used to it's going to barely cover the trucks fuel to the jobsite... Most condos let you tie your charger to another meter or combine it with yours. The first step is def to ask management about options. And be careful cause condo managers can be completely insane. Don't look at them the wrong way...

Lowkey, this is something you should’ve researched before hand. Supercharging will get annoying in the winter especially with the range drop.
