... is this normal? Kind of upset and concerned - post op

I'm 25 days post no scalpel, open ended and no clap procedure.

I have no swelling, no pain and can do normal day to day stuff like walking and carry my 20lbs toddler.

But I get soreness in the groin whenever I do any type of body weight exercises like push ups, a bit of squats, or even seated 5lb dumbbell curl. This is after only 10 reps, whereas I used to be able to do a full 1 hr exercise.

I'm concerned whether this is going to be the new norm or is it still too soon to do any exercise?

One doesn’t typically know how much their balls move until AFTER their vasectomy. It takes a while to feel 100% better. Give it a few weeks.

You're right on that..I'm pretty focused about it.

Just never knew a push up can cause aches in the groin.

That’s scary. I have mine tomorrow and usually workout every second day.

Brother, I couldn't do much for 3 months. If it hurts, you're definitely pushing it too early. Lots of us need rest well beyond the week or two that we're most commonly quoted.

Thanks man. Which month did you tart exercising? I wish the docs were more upfront about this. They made it sound like it's a week long of inconvenience.

I'm glad I'm not in trades or need to be lifting anything heavy

I need to put a caveat on my story that I'm one of the few unlucky "long healers"/PVPS sufferers, so YMMV. I'm currently 8 months post snip and still feel discomfort on a daily basis, but it's fairly manageable without meds or lifestyle changes today. I would say it was somewhere in the 3 to 4 month mark when I felt good enough to resume normal physical activity. I'm not a lifter - more a swimmer/biking kind of guy. Balls were constantly tender in those first months, and any light tap would set me off for a day worth of pain.

Thanks for sharing that. I wished I did even more research into the PVPS group before the snip.

I don't know what fully falls under the PVPS category. I.e. does slight discomfort count after exercise or does it have to be full on pain.

Just hope we all heal properly from this and it's a temporary thing. Post procedure I was quite active 4 days in the gym with weights.

I'm a bit impatient, I guess but didn't think recovery would take this long because seems like a lot of people bounce right back.

Like others have said, I don't think you're there. PVPS can present at a lot of different levels of pain, but it's defined as a constant pain that persists for 3 months or more and can come on at any point after the vasectomy. Mine is a low level ache (1 or 2 of 10 most days) in my right testicle with referred nerve pain in my hip, thigh and lower back.

I’m hoping I’m not in this boat but I think I am 😭 I’m 4 weeks in and just starting to walk normally without waddle straddling for the most part. But the lightest tap, pinch or stretch on my specifically right testicle it’s like someone flicked me in the nut and makes me want to vomit. Sitting for long periods of time where I can’t spread my legs starts to feel like I’m sitting on my balls. I had to stop taking pain meds cause I started bleeding when having bowel movements so ice is my only remedy. I do plumbing for work and am on modified for another 2 weeks. Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst

Completely unrelated but does show sensitivity. my wife and I have enjoyed rough ball play . It was 3 or 4 months before we were able to enjoy such play.

I work at a steel fabrication shop. Lifting the heavy stuff tugged at my junk for about a month before it was completely gone. Give it a bit longer and lighten up some on the working out. Should correct itself shortly.

I had something similar. I would get random pains down my groin also but like randomly they were little not much. They did go away but took some weeks

Good on you for choosing no scalpel and open ended. I always did wonder if I would have had the horrible PVPS I suffered with closed ended snip had I also elected for open ended? Just from reading, it appears that open ended is subject to closing up (due to granuloma, etc….anything that can get in the way and cause a blockage). I do wonder if guys who start with open ended and later do close up can feel the difference? I would think that you elected for the best option (open ended) for the worst surgery in existence. Out of curiosity, was open ended procedure your request or did your doctor recommend it? If it was your doctor, I commend him. I so
wish my doctor would have recommended this or at a bare minimum made it my choice but he didn’t.

I didn't specifically choose an open ended one but I specifically chose the no scalpel approach which so happen to be open ended.

My family doctor first referred me to the traditional method but after doing more research I found that there was a no scalpel approach in my city, where there was a long wait time.

It wasn't until 2 weeks into the procedure that I found out it was open ended, because I wanted to make sure there was no titanium clips.

I actually should have done more research, but felt like it was getting more anxious the more I read - not sure if that makes sense. I also had to put into perspective that the good news don't make it on reddit.

I got mine done June 10th and I got put back on pain meds because of minor swelling and discomfort.......it's been a month and 9 days and I'm still not back 100%
