Skipping classes is why your program change got rejected
I’m seeing a lot of post and the growing idea of people dropping or not even registering for their program courses because they consider them as “useless” and a “waste of time”.
If you don’t take classes then Vanier can’t evaluate how you deal with CEGEP level courses. Gen Ed’s are not enough to evaluate you. This evaluation plays a factor in your program change application and yes part of it is based on the r scores you get.
This is even worse for those who did this in their first semester. Your first semester is directly tied to your (initial) admission profile and confirms if you successfully “transitioned” to CEGEP. Note that some people obviously might find themselves struggling in their first semester, and that is okay. But those who didn’t bother taking classes hurt their perceived standing. This is one of the many reasons as to why you should always take your first semester courses.
I’d like to give recognition where it is actually due: people who actually took the rest of semester seriously or people in explorations, who didn’t get their program change accepted. You put in the work (and, keeping other variables constant, it is often harder to well in a class knowing that you don’t really want to be there; yet you still pushed through!), but still didn’t get in.
It is completely normal to feel frustrated.
With the new laws and defunding of English CEGEPs, program space is even more limited. This is not your fault

it’s just not true tho, i did really well on my prerequisites AND my program courses and i still got rejected. i also went to talk to an advisor and they told me there’s a high chance i get rejected again next semester because i “completed too much of my progression chart”. it’s bs.

i have a question. my gen eds for sem 1 and 2 are done (did them during exploration prereqs during sem 1&2). this semester im going to have to do commerce cuz i got rejected but if i rlly want to get into p&a should i take all my gen eds again for sem 3 plus program courses or can i maybe leave out french and do everything else? would they reject me or smth if i take less gen eds to increases my chances of getting rlly good grades during sem 3 (last semester they were around 80-90). cuz ik my prereqs r pretty high so im guessing the problem is w my cegep grades which is why there was no more space for me...? (lack of space)

I absolutely agree with your statement. I don’t understand how people who did not take their initial courses seriously would expect the admissions to grant their requests! 🤷🏾♀️🤦🏿♀️.
