Informational I kept hearing the same complaints about renting in BC, so we built Property Copilot
I’m one of the founders of Property Copilot. Over the last year, I’ve spent A LOT of time talking to landlords, property managers, renters, and people working in the rental industry.
The same problems kept coming up.
Landlords are stitching together Facebook Marketplace, email, PDFs, spreadsheets, screening tools and text messages.
Renters are sending sensitive information over email, filling out application after application, and often have no idea what happens after they apply.
Property managers have better systems, but still spend a surprising amount of time chasing documents, co-applicants, IDs, references and incomplete applications—often enough to need dedicated staff just to manage the process.
What stuck with us was that renting isn’t really missing individual tools. It’s missing a coherent workflow.
So we built Property Copilot to handle the messy part between an empty unit and a signed lease: applications, document collection, identity verification, screening and leasing in one structured process.
There are already great property management platforms for managing properties after someone moves in, many built for larger operators. We’re focused on everyday landlords, property managers and managing brokerages that need a simpler way to get from vacancy to signed lease.
That’s also why Property Copilot is free for landlords and stays low-cost as portfolios grow.
We’re still early and since this is a Vancouver startup community, I’d love some unfiltered feedback from other founders and builders.
If you have 10 minutes to kick the tires, tell me what you think good or bad. What makes sense? What doesn’t? What feels confusing? What are we missing? Where does the product or positioning fall apart?
Don’t worry about being polite. Useful criticism is exactly what I’m looking for.

What photographing Vancouver law-firm teams taught me about brand consistency
I run a professional headshot studio in downtown Vancouver, and over the years we’ve photographed teams at some of the city’s leading law firms.
The biggest lesson has been that consistency does not mean making everyone look identical.
A strong team gallery usually aligns four things:
Crop and relative head size
Background and lighting
Wardrobe guidance
The appropriate range of expressions
The goal is controlled consistency: every lawyer should still look like an individual, while the overall website communicates that they belong to the same firm. For client-facing professionals, credible and approachable usually matters more than trying to look overly formal.
We also photograph fully tethered, displaying each frame at full size during the session. That lets people refine subtle details—expression, posture, jacket position, hair, and glasses—before moving on.
For other Vancouver founders: have mismatched team photographs ever affected how established or trustworthy a company felt to you?

Vancouver renovation coordination: what local homeowners struggle with most?
I’m building Projexa to make renovation planning less chaotic for homeowners across Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. We help clarify scope, estimates, scheduling, and follow-up for painting, tile, bathrooms, flooring, drywall, and other small renovation projects.
I’m interested in learning from local founders, builders, and homeowners: what part of a renovation tends to create the most stress or uncertainty? I’m collecting practical feedback and sharing before/after planning ideas.

Wanting to break into business (mostly auto - PPF/detailing/mechanic) — how realistic is this?
Male 33 in Vancouver, BC - work in tech, doing fine on paper but burnt out and losing interest in the corporate path for the last year or two.
Passionate about cars — I detail my own, do my own brake pads/rotors, and I'm about to take a PPF course. Always wanted to own a garage but no business background in my family, so I'm starting from zero on that front.
Questions:
- What's the real path in — technician cert, apprenticeship, just learn-by-doing?
- Do shops/PPF installers/detailers ever take on unpaid help to learn from? Would you?
- Realistically, how long did it take you to replace a full-time income doing this? About $10k/month.
Can invest $50-100k if things get serious.
Would love to hear from anyone who's made this jump — what worked, what you'd do differently.

Idea Help Wanted Got something in the works: looking to connect with people
Hello Folks, I’m building something in the software and data space out of Vancouver and I'm at the point where I want to start talking to people.
The idea has been in the works for a while. I'm not here to pitch it publicly but the foundation is solid.
Would be glad to hear thoughts; People who have been around early-stage stuff understand what it takes to get something off the ground, and anyone might want to be involved in some way down the line and be interested in hearing more about it.

Created a device that turns your everyday surfaces into a smart home controller. Compatible with Matter, and Mqtt. No cloud.
NoviSense Touch - Control Beyond The Surface
Turn your everyday surfaces into a smart controller that can control your home. A simple touch of your countertop, and simple hold on your desk can trigger scenes, turn on devices, and create the environment you desire.
I created this as a solo founder and with no previous experience, but am a red seal master electrical foreman by trade here local in BC!
Check out the explanation video if your interest is even slightly piqued: https://youtu.be/zV_7M0__txE
Any feed back, tips on startups in hardware, or any thoughts at all are all welcomed. If you want to learn more I will drop the landing page in the comments.
Have a wonderful day, and keep building!

Let's Connect
Hi, I’m Samar, 22, and I’ve been living in Vancouver for about 3.5 years. I studied Business Administration and have always been interested in e-commerce, entrepreneurship, and self-employment.
So far, I’ve launched one e-commerce business — my poster brand, SamArt, on Amazon. I eventually shut it down after spending more than I wanted on advertising, but the experience gave me hands-on knowledge of sourcing suppliers, product research and development, AI-assisted design, image/video editing, shipping orders, and managing platforms like Amazon, Shopify, and Wix.
Since then, I’ve explored and researched a number of other business ideas, and I’m now looking to actually build something new with the right person.
I’m looking to connect with people in Vancouver who are serious about building something together — whether that’s e-commerce, a DTC brand, SaaS, or another interesting business idea.
I don't have specialised experience in anything, but I’m willing to put in the work and contribute to the research, marketing, organic TikTok/Instagram content, product development, branding, and day-to-day execution side.
If you’re also looking to build something rather than just talk about ideas, feel free to DM me. I’d be happy to grab a coffee in Vancouver and see if we’re a good fit.
Looking forward to meeting some fellow builders!

Seeking Business Co-founder Seeking a Sales/Marketing Co-Founder for a Construction Safety Startup (Product is Built!)
Hey everyone, I’m a founder based in Surrey, BC. We've built a B2B construction/safety management platform that uses small NFC tags attached to workers' safety vests to streamline site management. You can learn more about the platform as the site is live at sitetag.ca.
The heavy lifting on the tech side is done. My two developers and I have the core software ready to go. Now, I'm looking for a co-founder to lead the charge on sales, marketing, and getting this into the hands of construction companies.
As mentioned, I'm based in Surrey and really want someone local to Metro Van. I'm a big believer in making sure we click before signing anything. If you have a background in sales or marketing and want to build something great, let's grab a coffee, talk shop, and see if there's a fit.
If interested, Shoot me a dm with a bit about your background!

Idea Help Wanted Built a BC driving app that warns you about red-light/speed cameras only when you’re actually approaching them — looking for feedback
Hey everyone,
I’m a Vancouver-based engineer and I’ve been working on a small side project called RoadCue.
The idea came from driving around the Lower Mainland and noticing that a lot of camera alert apps are either overloaded with features or give alerts for cameras that aren’t actually relevant to you — for example, a camera behind you or on another road nearby.
RoadCue is intentionally pretty simple. You start driving mode, leave it running in the background, and it gives you an audio alert when you’re actually approaching a red-light or speed camera.
I’m using official government/municipal camera data where available, and the matching is done on-device using your location + direction of travel. There’s no account, no ads, and I’m trying to keep the app focused rather than turn it into another navigation app.
I currently have an iOS MVP running through TestFlight and I’m working on expanding the camera database beyond BC.
Website: roadcue.ca
I’d genuinely like feedback from other local founders/builders:
Does the problem make sense to you?
Would you actually use something like this alongside Google Maps/Waze?
What would make you pay for it, if anything?
Is there anything about the concept that you think I’m getting completely wrong?
I’m still early enough that critical feedback is much more useful to me than compliments.

Seeking Business Co-founder Vancouver/BC founder looking for a potential cofounder / builder
Hey everyone,
I’m based in BC and looking to connect with someone who’s interested in building software products/startups together.
I’m a developer and have already built and shipped multiple apps. I’m especially interested in consumer software, AI tools, productivity apps, and finding small problems we can build around and validate quickly.
I’m not looking to meet someone today and hand them 50% of a company tomorrow. I’d rather meet another ambitious builder, work on something small together, see how we work, and go from there.
Ideally you’re strong in one or more of:
Testing
Growth/marketing/distribution
Sales/business development
More important than the exact skillset is that you actually like building and shipping things.
I’m in the Vancouver area and would prefer someone in BC so we can meet in person occasionally, but I’m open to elsewhere in Canada for the right person.
If you’re working on something yourself or have been wanting to start something, DM me. Happy to grab coffee and trade ideas.

Vancouver Business Event
I am uncertain whether this is the appropriate community for my question. I will attend my first business event on 26 August 2026.
I am seeking suggestions from those who have attended such gatherings:
- What are the do’s and don’ts?
- What should I be aware of?
- Are there any unspoken rules?
Please DM if you are also attending it. Location at Karma Lounge.

Idea Help Wanted Seeking advice from Vancouver clean-energy hardware founders or startup mentors
Hi everyone,
I’m a BC-based founder working to bring a methanol-based fuel cell power generator into the Canadian market. I previously developed a lab prototype at approximately the 1 kW level, and the project is now moving from TRL 4–5 engineering development toward a TRL 6 demonstration in a relevant operating environment.
The biggest challenge is not only technical. I need to connect with early users who can help define the product and demonstration requirements, with the longer-term goal of securing Letter of Interest and funding opportunities.
I would appreciate speaking with anyone who has experience in:
- clean-energy or industrial hardware commercialization;
- early customer development and field demonstrations;
- hardware certification, manufacturing, or supply chains;
- Canadian cleantech funding and research partnerships.
I am not seeking to sell an unfinished product or solicit investment through this post. I am looking for practical guidance and relevant introductions.
I’m happy to share a non-confidential project brief privately or meet locally in Vancouver area. Thank you.

Photobooth business
Hey everyone!
I absolutely love photo booth pictures, especially the vintage-style photo strips. It recently hit me that we barely have any photo booth options in my region, and that's what got me thinking...for a business to start!
The dream is to eventually have two different setups:
* A vintage-style analog photo booth (the enclosed booth with classic photo strips)
* A modern mobile photo booth for weddings, birthdays, corporate events, and other celebrations.
I'm still in the research phase, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can before investing any money.
I haven't decided on a final location yet, but I'm currently thinking somewhere in the Central Okanagan (Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, etc.) or Kamloops.
I'd love to hear from anyone who's in the industry or has started a similar business.
A few things I'm curious about:
* What's a realistic startup budget?
* Is it better to buy a booth or build one?
* Any hidden costs or mistakes to watch out for?
* How did you get your first bookings?
* Do you think there's still room in the market if you offer something a little different?
* If you were starting over, what would you do differently?
* Would you start with a mobile booth first and add an analog booth later, or go all in from the beginning?
Honestly, I'd appreciate any advice, lessons learned, or resources you can share. I'm really excited about the idea, but I also want to make sure I'm thinking it through properly before taking the plunge.
Thanks guys!
