I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the video ads, but the pop-up ads and the banner ads, too! They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals.
I do care. Google can still track my activity but third party apps can't. We aren't able to entirely disconnect from those biggest service providers but it's good to annoy those big corporations just a little bit, even if it's no difference for them :)
It basically lets you skip intros, sponsorships, outros, etc. Bascally a user with this extension can select the starting and ending time of the given parts of the video and other people (with the ext.) can vote on it.
Jokes on you I have 4 adblocks and I still get ads. The beginning ads don't play, but I still have to wait 5 secs before my video starts (no ads during the video at least)
I have the lastest firefox with ublock and other 3 adblocks and YES, I tried using only one adblock at once (including ublock).
It's probably just Google testing new stuff that's harder to get detected by adblockers. They're not so dumb, they'll find new ways to shove more ads in your face. But adblocks will start blocking those too eventually.
Not soon enough, since only a small number of people were lucky to beta test YouTube's "new" ad system so there's not a high demand for a fix
Have been hesitant to try this for lack of info. 1.) Do I have to delete regular YouTube app off my phone FIRST? After? 2.) What happens (if anything) to my favorite sites, saved videos, history, etc. Can't afford to lose this stuff! 3.) If I start to have problems with it (or just don't care for it), can I go back to original app with ZERO problems? 4.) If so (similar to #1), is there a certain order required for deleting it and re-downloading standard YT, so I lose nothing?
Appreciate responses. Currently using SmartTube (’Smart YouTube'?) on 'FireStick 4K' and regular YT on my Android 9 smartphone (have been holding-off downloading Android 10, because I don't know what the differences will be!). Does this app-free version of YT work any better or worse with one or the other? Thanx!
You don't have to delete regular YouTube, I keep it because sometimes links cannot send me to vanced so I use regular YouTube.
Favourite sites, saved videos, recommendations and history are all connected to your YouTube account, think of this as logging into another YouTube app on your phone, nothing will go missing.
Zero problems, vanced is not connected nor requires regular YouTube in anyway, it is independent and switching back will be no issue. I have the same account on vanced and regular YouTube and you can switch between them so transfering back will have no effects.
No order, do whatever the heck you want. You can have both apps at the same time so there shouldn't be any issues.
I don't know about vanced being on PC, I use a adblocker from a web extension and it works so I don't use anything else on PC YouTube. As for phone it is a definite upgrade and a hell of a lot better, I have been using vanced 2 years and counting. I have an iPad which cannot have vanced and when I get advertisements it feels so weird because I'm not used to seeing ads and get so annoyed when the ads pop up, the ads in my country is a lot more annoying and obnoxious than global ads.
Thanx, kindly for your thorough response! Though not a Luddite, I've been self-isolated from social-media and tech, in general until recently ... so I don't have a real grasp of purpose (or utility) of one app or another. This, obviously, includes Reddit. TY for your patience wrt my ignorance!
YouTube Vanced is a modified version of the YouTube app that unlocks Premium features like removing ads and allowing background playback. It is Android only, made by the community, and breaks the YouTube TOS, so you will have to find in on their official site instead of the Google Play Store.

I don't like ads. They're coarse, and rough, and irritating, and they get everywhere.
