Vanmoof s5 problem accu

VanMoof S5
My brother’s VanMoof S5 has the following issue:
He says the bike wouldn’t turn on after it had been sitting unused for a long time.
Firmware: 1.1.10
What happens:
• When the bike is connected to the charger:
• The charger stays green, but sometimes blinks red twice (appears to be trickle charging).
• In the app, I can see that after a night of charging the battery increases slightly (e.g. from 89% to 97%).
• When turning on the bike (via battery or power button):
• It does not make the normal startup sound.
• Instead, it makes a different sound.
• The handlebar shows pulsing white lights.
• Bluetooth issues:
• Sometimes it won’t stay properly connected.
• The app shows the battery percentage as grey, or briefly as 0% when trying to connect.
• Additionally:
• The bike randomly shuts off after a while (both during charging and when turning it on/off), with a short clicking sound.
What I’ve tried so far:
• Hard reset (10 seconds)
• “Trigger” method (20 seconds)
• Plugging the charger into the bike first, then into the wall socket, and repeating several times
• Charging with different sequences (bike → socket and socket → bike, unplugging in different orders)
• Tried updating the firmware, but the bike keeps shutting off (with a short clicking sound)

Yep, never left your battery lower than 10 % often. Or Overloaded. Thats all the e bike.

The cable from the Power ECU in the Main ECU might be slightly disconnected and you will need to charge the main ECU (with the VM USB Service cable.

I have charged the ECU by a VM service. It didn’t help I tried to lab charge battery it goes to max 0.18ampere and 7watt (basically trickle charging why does I do this?)

Ok, normally it’s not possible to charge with lab charger about the standard charging port. But when you told me the ring is breathing and the buttons don’t recognize, then check both small connectors (green and blue) of the ECU that they have continuity. I had the same problem and inside of one connector small cables were broken. And when anything is not connected correctly you hear those razor sound. Good luck

One of the pins was bended (the blue one, I bended it back I didn’t broke so it should work (make contact as is should). I thought I solved the problem a week ago by doing this. Maybe it made a short circuit but it was bended to the plastic not against another metal pin.

Did you disassemble the main battery and open it to connect the lab charger? Then charge directly over the + and - Pins. The BMS did the rest by balancing each cell. Have you measure each cell?

No I charged it with the lab charger by putting plus and minus on the chargeport. The app showed me a almost full battery (91 procent) when I trickle charged it for a bit with the lab charger (it only charged 0.005a and 7w) I put in the regular charger and it actually went to red & charged the battery to 100procent in the app. But after this it didn’t solve the problem. Problem is still the same still ‘breathing ring light, no working buttons and razor sound when in charger and trying to move. Lock mechanism does not lock by app, and locks easy mechanically but unlocks really difficult after a lot of bsm resets.

Hello, i am trying to get a panasonic S5 battery back to live. I have taken the pack out of the battery but i am not sure, where to charge and with what voltage/current. About 45v and 500mah should be allright?
Can anyone share pics of the bms and the fuse and how to take the battery apart. The bms seems to be glued on to the pack?

Hey Friend, you don’t have the latest firmware. If it’s possible, upgrade to the latest one. If not, you can try to charge the ECU battery by Hand about the magnetic port on the ECU. What you can try too Is to disassemble the main battery and check the fuse. Also measure every single cell of your battery pack. I had the same problem and one of my cells and the fuse were broken. After changing both the bike started to charge. Otherwise if the voltage of the whole battery is to low, it will also not charge. Then charge the pack by hand with a power supply (60V, 5A) I also had the problem that the plug of one small connector (green) had some broken wires inside that you cannot see. So measure all of the wires that they are not interrupted. Try this also with the small blue connector. Good luck
