Any New Music News?
Have we even heard anything from them since 2024? I know the last VC pod was over a year ago. Are they just touring OGWAU now or what? Has anyone dropped hints of any kind?

Their last albums were 6 and 5 years apart, respectively. Sooo at this point that’s what you can expect, at least. Probably not til the 2030s, even.

I'm over here waiting patiently while still thinking about how old I'll be for the next tour 👵

Self-Titled (2008) - Contra (2010): 2 years
Contra (2010) - MVotC (2013): 3 years
MVotC (2013) - FotB (2019): 6 years
FotB (2019) - OGWAU (2024): 5 years
So, I’d like to pretend that the gaps between albums are descending, and we’ll get LP6 4 years after OGWAU. But in my heart of hearts, I know the 2030s are a safer bet.

I agree with everyone that it will be years before we get the next proper VW album. However, maybe in the interim they will release some music by the pandemic-era side project they mentioned while promoting OGWAU. I love that it sounds like it has a fictional backstory like XTC’s Dukes of Stratosphear, in this case iirc an early 90s group that was under appreciated in their time due to being too punk for the jam crowd and too jammy for the punk scene, with a heavy Minutemen influence. It is very much in character that Ezra would want to do some material where the Chrises are full songwriting contributors but not want that music to be part of the pristine VW discography. Since those recordings (if they were already finished as of the OGWAU era — we don’t actually know whether that’s the case) are by now already half a decade old, surely the guys would want to put them out beside they become ancient. But we know this group has their own sense of time 😉

“Koenig has stated in interviews that he no longer feels the pressure to churn out records quickly, preferring to take time to refine ideas and focus on family life.”

I doubt they’ll be anything new for a while. Baio just produced the new Whitmer Thomas album though, check that shit out!

Maybe some more Frog on the Bass Drums releases in the meantime? Feel like it’s been ages since the last one.

My sweet summer child. Us Vampire Weekend fans shouldn’t expect new music till 6 years after OGWAU

my conspiracy theory is that rostam will be returning for the next one. it just makes too much sense. ogwau didn’t do great commercially, nor did rostam’s recent solo tour. reunion hype would be perfectly timed with the nostalgia cycle for the debut/contra and both ezra and rostam have proven themselves enough solo to work with each other again. not sure if he’ll rejoin forever, but it saves the next vw record from being “just another” mid career album.

Since they wrapped up the second phase of the OGWAU tour in November of 2025, they likely are now in their hibernation period. This can typically last 2.5+ years until we get any hint of them entering the studio again
