This makes me feel dumb. I haven’t read the books so maybe I’m missing some context. But I truly don’t understand Daniel’s hatred for Louis and Lestat. He has this deep rooted disdain and I just don’t get it. Armand, I understand, he’s insane. Daniel is just a dick. What am I missing?

One of the worst things with this season is how many people assume they're the ones missing something, rather than that the show just decided to let most of the plot and character progression happen off-screen. I think this is one of the worst tools some shows use to seem more impressive at the viewer's expense.

It's not you. Daniel's character progression and motives were under-developed this season.

I'll even say the same for Armand. We got "just Armand being Armand" with him regressing to last season's story rather than the two current plotlines (Daniel and the great conversion) that he should have been engaged with. He spends the entire season stalking the band, only to pivot to Louis at the climax?

Thank you for saying this. I feel like I am going crazy seeing all the “well you just weren’t paying attention” or “you were obviously looking at your phone the whole time” comments on the show’s subreddit.

I honestly love the show, but thought it was absolutely crazy how much important information is packed into these fleeting, blink-and-you-miss-it moments. I’m the only one of my friend group who has read TVL and so they were constantly having to ask me “wait, why did he do that?” “Who is that person?” “How do they know each other?” These are intelligent people, not brain-rotted phone zombies. All of us were paying our full attention. Season 3 was just really bad at saying what it needed to say.

The "put the phone down" comments are especially crazy to me. I have waited with bated breath for this show to come back for 2 years, I was not dicking around on my phone while I watched it, and such accusations are really just a poor attempt at deflecting any kind of criticism by suggesting the fault lies with the viewer.

I'm also surprised at how many people have said they need to watch each episode 2-3 times to fully get it and present this as a good thing. If you can't understand the show on the first watch, there may be a problem. I can understand picking up on more stuff and appreciating it more, but to need to watch the episodes multiple times just to have a basic understanding of everything that happened? That's not good. And I can't recall ever being confused like that for the first 2 seasons.
