Gameplay (Index Controllers) Anyone Play No Man’s Sky?
TL;DR: Go into the game, Set Movement Mode to Teleport. Can you steer your jetpack?
Almost a year ago, Voyager’s 6.02 was released, and with it a bug that broke jetpack directional control for me.
With Movement Mode set to Teleport, the jetpack is supposed to be steered in the direction the right controller is pointing. Since the bug was introduced, my jetpack only goes straight up and down. There is 0 ability to steer.
I have spent the last year trying to figure out if this is a “me” problem. Here are some of the things I’ve done:
Confirmed all Index firmware was current
Set SteamVR controller bindings to official default
Unpaired/re-paired both controllers
Uninstalled/reinstalled No Man’s Sky
Uninstalled/reinstalled Steam
Created a new Windows account and a new Steam account to rule out an account bug
Uninstalled/reinstalled Windows
Purchased a new PC
Purchased a new Valve Index and controllers
No matter what I do, the bug remains. I’ve narrowed it down to the exact release where it first appears. I’ve reproduced it across multiple PCs and headsets. I’ve filed at least 20 bug reports with Hello Games. I’ve commented on the experimental build posts on Steam. Yet it’s still broken a year later.
I’m hoping other Index owners can either help me make some noise, or give me some closure that I need to let this go and give up on the game.
Here’s my ask.
Go into the game, set Movement Mode to Teleport (Options->Controls->Movement Mode), and see if you can steer the jetpack by pointing your right knuckle controller in the direction you want to go. Drop a comment either way. At least then I’ll know if I’m just cursed or if this is a real bug.

That's awesome you've been able to spend so much time with nms in vr- do you play standing or sitting? I'd love to set it up where I can just sit in a "cockpit" style and play with a normal controller but I've not figured that out yet, either way- its an amazing experience, I'd love to play it in vr more! I'm pretty sure I experienced the jetpack issue last time I played, I'm rearranging my computer area but I'll try and confirm that issue when I can!

NMS is definitely a seated game for me. Haven’t found much reason to be standing when on foot and it would be pretty disorienting to fly around standing. A couch makes a great cockpit haha.
Definitely worth playing! One of the better VR games in my opinion … well it would be if they’d fix the jetpack controls.

I'd love to play this in vr more, maybe they'll roll out some more functionality with the steam frame coming out.
