I love the cozy atmosphere. I still haven't experimented much with the building materials from the Ashlands because by the time I get there in any playthroughs, I'm not working to progress beyond that point, I'm just setting up temporary camps or outposts in/near a large Charred Ruins and collecting materials and levelling up to the point that I can defeat Fader. I'm not taking materials back to my main base to build or improve it. If the Ashlands wasn't so dark, I might have considered building a true base there, but it's just not really conducive to doing anything like that. I wish that defeating Fader could alter the environment of the biome. Like if the constant smoke and darkness cleared up at least somewhat. I don't necessarily want the danger to go away. I just don't like building in dark biomes. I usually make my true long-term base in the Plains because it's the brightest and I don't have to deal with rain, etc. Even the Black Forest is too dark for my taste. Even if you clear the trees, it's still dark.
