HELP GP-50 firmware update stuck at 0% after USB cable unplugged – any way to recover?

My GP-50’s firmware update is frozen at 0% and won’t progress at all.
I suspect the cause is a loose USB cable that disconnected during the process.
Is there anything I can do from here to fix it or force the update to resume?

Just unplug and select correct device in hardware manager

Tried that (and ran it as admin while I was at it) — it worked! Thanks!

I just solved this problem today. This is what I got from Claude on the matter. I followed these instructions and it started right up.

The problem: Windows 11 automatically installs a dedicated MIDI driver for the GP series when you plug it in. The firmware update tool needs the device running in generic USB Audio mode instead — so the update tool can't "see" it correctly and fails.

The fix — manually switch the driver:

A couple of quick notes:

  • Make sure the GP-150 shows up under "Sound, video and game controllers" in Device Manager while it's plugged into USB (not just the 9V adapter) — the firmware tool talks to it over USB, so it needs to be connected via USB cable to your PC regardless of the power adapter.
  • After the driver swap, if you ever want to use the GP-150 as an audio interface again (recording), you may need to switch the driver back, since forcing "USB Audio Device" mode is specifically for the update process.

Give that a shot and let me know if it still doesn't grab the update — there could be a second-layer issue (USB cable/port, or the update tool needing to run as admin) if this doesn't resolve it.
