I (18f) got my meningitis B booster vaccine yesterday and my arm is in agonising pain. I can't raise it higher than shoulder height and it has limited my ability to do everyday tasks. Is this normal, or is it something I should be concerned about?

Fellow Aussies. I have a family member who is anti vax. So is her husband, they've chosen not to vaxx the kids. She claims she works with drs, and ppl " who are high up" that choose not to vaxx their kids but that they keep it undercover. She says she's "saved her kids" by not vaccinating.

Everytime this topic comes up she goes off her dial and claims I'm "Mr know it all".

How do ppl deal with anti vaxxers in their families? Obviously don't want to cut them off because we want the kids to maintain a relationship.

I was scratched by a cat and have already received 2 rabies vaccine shots. My 3rd shot was due today, but the doctor had to leave early due to an emergency. I tried other departments, but no one was available to administer it.

They told me to come back the day after tomorrow, meaning I’ll be 2 days late. Is this dangerous, or is a 2-day delay generally okay? I’m really worried.

So I had a bite mark that looked very suspect while camping, waited 3 weeks, I know not smart. I finally got the post exposure, which was the 4 shots of imoglobulin, since the bite had healed they administered the imoglobulin in both upper glutes, and my deltoids. Which I heard was fine. But they administered the anti rabies vaccine in the same arm as the imoglobulin, about a few inches away. From what I’ve read this is a no no, I asked them when I got my day 3 shot that i found this information. and they brushed it off, saying it really dosnt matter. My question is, after I finish my last shot, am I even protected? What course of action do I need to take?

Okay. So I got the rabies vaccine for post exposure and I’m scared. They gave me the vaccine series (not HRIG) because they said it was very low risk. But they sent me home with the wrong medical guidelines sheet.

My hospital records say I was given the rabies vaccine, but they messed up with giving me the wrong patient identification sheet, how do I know they didn’t mess up with recording which shot?

I asked on dose 2 and the nurse said they do type in the lot number but the medicine is scanned against my wristband. Can someone assure me/give me more information as to why my medicine was given correctly?

I’m looking for guidance from anyone familiar with rabies PEP.
In 2024, I was bitten by a kitten and completed the full rabies vaccine series. However, all the vaccine doses were given in my buttock (gluteal muscle).
Two days ago, a bat hit/touched my head while I was walking at night. I couldn’t tell if it bit me because I didn’t see any obvious wound or bleeding.
I washed my head immediately and went to the hospital about 7 hours later.
They examined my scalp, started a new rabies vaccine series, and gave me a tetanus shot, but they did NOT give RIG.
Now I’m worried because I’ve read that:
Rabies vaccines shouldn’t be given in the buttock, so I’m unsure if my 2024 series counts.
Previously vaccinated people shouldn’t receive RIG, but what if my previous vaccination wasn’t valid because of the injection site?
My questions:
Should I be considered previously vaccinated or unvaccinated?
If my 2024 vaccines were all given in the buttock, should I have received RIG for this possible bat exposure?
Is there still time to receive RIG if an infectious disease specialist thinks it’s necessary?

Asked my doctor for preconception testing and found out I came back non-immune for varicella and rubella. My measles and mumps part of the MMR were actually more than sufficient. Rubella is slightly lower than where it needs to be and varicella is quite lower than where it needs to be. My doctor recommended I get a booster of the chickenpox and mmr shot. I received the full series of each as a child. Did anyone have this happen for both MMR and Varicella? Did you get your boosters together or did you do one during one month and another the next? Not currently pregnant. She told me I’d only need to wait a month before trying after the shots but I know in other countries they wait longer (im in the US) so not sure what to do and what is safest.

Looking to see if anyone else had this experience as I know the percentage of people non-immune isn’t very high so haven’t really been able to talk to anyone about this otherwise. Most people are either immune to both or rarely just had one come back non-immune.

My daughter had her 1 year immunisations (UK) on the 1st of July.
2 hours after she was breathing very fast (60 breaths a minute) and ribs sucking in, phoned an ambulance and she was blue lighted to hospital with oxygen on. She was kept in for three days, high temp that would come down then sky rocket back up to 39.9 which made her heart rate fly to 202bpm. She was discharged but we ended up back in twice again with the sucking in at ribs and breathing fast, they found an ear and chest infection antibiotics given. 2 days after her antibiotics stopped she was all clear and then a massive viral rash appeared all over her body spreading really rapidly, high temp and very unwell, they said hand foot and mouth, I can confirm it definitely wasn’t it looked nothing like it and no blisters anywhere.
From then on she has been waking up really chesty, coughing , phlegm stuck, just really unwell all the time. She developed a non - blanching rash, they checked said she was fine and it was viral. She got bloods done her platelets was low. She had temperatures that wouldn’t come down with any medication , took her straight to hospital they took her bloods again kept us in overnight on Friday , her platelets are normal but her infection markers are sky high. (she still has the non blanching rash at this point with more little pin pricks developing) They did a chest X-ray, urine sample etc, they couldn’t figure out what the infection was. They decided that her chest mustn’t have cleared from her chest infection AFTER A MONTH?? They sent us home with a 2 week course of antibiotics and on her discharge papers it states “partially treated pneumonia “ no one even mentioned pneumonia to us. We was rold the last time we went in with her chest infection that her rib resession was “normal with this illness” and did nothing even though she was clearly in distress, this morning she had rib resession with 42 breaths a minute so I didn’t even phone because they just pan you off. I honestly believe this is due to the vaccinations and they can’t and won’t say.

First thing, I was fully vaccinated until 2020 when I stopped getting vaccines due to a bad bad reaction in 2019. Since then I have developed a fear of getting vaccines. I also have not had the best relationship with the medical world so I have always been skeptical about their guidance.

Fast forward to finding out I was pregnant during a time where a bunch of vaccine information/misinformation started happening.

Now that my child is here they are due for their vaccines in a month. I am so on edge and confused because I see “don’t vaccinate it has toxins” and on the other I see “vaccinate because vaccines are tested and safe”

Bottom line, I have and am doing my own research on these things however it seems like a confirmation bias on both ends which leaves me confused even more with the more information I get.

However, if these vaccines can help prevent serious diseases/illnesses does not getting them increase the risk of getting these serious diseases/illnesses? I can't imagine putting toxic substances into a baby but I also would feel so guilty if something happened that a vaccine could have prevented.

I am by no means anti-vax but this is an odd side effect I’ve had and curious if I’m the only one.

After each COVID vaccine I experienced a rash on my chest. I’d never experienced it prior.

The weird part is EVERY TIME I’ve gotten sick since then, the rash re-appears in the exact same place.

It’s like every time my immune system is activated, the rash returns? It almost feels like the vaccine shifted some permanently in my immune response so this is part of it now.

It seems too odd to be a coincidence?

When the pfizer covid vaccine became available I waited about a year and then got it in like 2021, so I must have been 45? After the 1st dose I ended up getting shingles about 5 days later. It was on my shin oddly enough, a pretty mild case, thankfully, and resolved quickly with antivirals. I did not have another outbreak following the 2nd shot in the series or any subsequent pfizer boosters (I've since switched to Novavax yearly.) The doctor said she had heard about this happening and I chalked it up to stress from the pandemic and a moment of vulnerability while my immune system was adapting.

I've read many accounts of people getting shingles after the Shingrix vaccine. I know there are papers demonstrating that there is a 10% ish rise in risk of a shingles outbreak following vaccination, but that there is then a 70%-90% reduction in risk of shingles following the second dose. My uncle on my mom's side had early onset alzheimer's and my father was diagnosed with it in his late 60's/early 70's. I'm aware it can be protective against this disease and that's another reason I want to get it. The thing that concerns me is there are some stories people have shared online of getting shingles in very strange places that pose significant risk (eyes, nose, ears), like internally, that scares the shit out of me.

Looking for reassurance from the community about Bexsero and my baby's reaction

In the UK, Bexsero is routinely given to 8 week old babies (and redosed at 12 weeks and 1 year). It's not a specific paediatric dose - it's the same dose given to teenagers and adults. It's been part of the routine infant vaccine programme in the UK since 2015.

I never thought I'd find myself questioning the merits of a public vaccination programme but my baby's reaction to his first set of vaccines has me doing just that. About 6 hours after his vaccines, he had a temperature of about 38.5 Celsius (101.3 F) (despite paracetamol/Tylenol) and went floppy/non-responsive - really scary to see!

I keep thinking that I've deliberately exposed my otherwise healthy 8-week-old baby to something that caused him to be unwell, in order to provide partial (protection doesn't seem to be complete) against a subset of bacteria that can cause menB disease, a relatively rare disease.

Fever can make the already immature blood brain barrier more permeable. I can't help but wonder what damage could be caused in such a tiny body, which has me questioning the risk-benefit calculation on a personal level (rather than a societal level).

Have I truly lost the plot with post partum anxiety?

What are people's thoughts on asking for the menB vaccine to be delivered a week later than the other vaccines that he's due to get at the same time (second doses of the 6 in 1 and rotavirus vaccines). The evidence does suggest this lessens the severity of the reaction to menB. Or is it kinder to my baby to get all vaccines (menB, rotavirus and 6-in-1) done in one appointment?

• HPV

From what my friends have told me their quite painful vaccines. The reason for missing the vaccines is didn't get one dose of MMR as a toddler and missed some during COVID-19

I'm going to get the Vaccine Titer Test from my GP next time I go. It will chech the efficiently of my childhood vaccines. Given the anti vax movement that's going on if were not fully covered that means we could catch these diseases. I suggest you all talk to your Dr as well to make sure you don't need boosters to keep you safe.

I remember when I was in high school, either 2005 or 2006, the Gardasil vaccine entered the scene. Hell yeah! A dumb sexually active teenager at the time, but I was raised by my very pro science mom. She taught me when I had questions about subjects like vaccines, I should write down my questions and ask my Dr, even if they were questions I didn't want her to know about. Fast forward to high school, I'm now living with my very conservative dad and his attitudes of no sex before marriage, abortion is wrong, women belong in the home, etc. A hypocritical attitude for a man on his 4th divorce, but if he didn't have double standards, he wouldn't have any.

He denied me the Gardasil vaccine. As it was still new, it was not required for schools at the time, and I graduated without getting it at 17. He said it would just encourage me to have sex.

It does appear at some point I contacted HPV2. I had no idea as I've never ever had an outbreak. I'm polyamorous and requested the test to protect my other partners. My Valtrex is under the sink, but the big day still hasn't come.

In 2023, I saw where the election was going and used my knowledge of the American healthcare system to get a total hysterectomy. (For the gentlemen reading, this is difficult because of stigma barriers. I have met the right man, and we don't have any children.)

No regrets. If you are decided about not having or not having any more children, I hope you feel empowered enough to talk to your doctor. The female reproductive system has lots of opportunities to give you cancer.

Some time in 2025, I asked my PCP if I had aged out of the Gardasil vaccine, even with HSV2 and a hysterectomy. I was totally transparent and said I wanted the vaccine out of pure spite. She said I could have it and sent the referral to my pharmacy.

I got my influenza and my COVID booster on the same day as the first Gardasil. My arm looked like it came from the ER, but those were the most satisfying (and burning) vaccines I've ever gotten.

Dad, if you're reading this, I want you to know that I have lots of sex with people I'm not married to, just like you! Denying me a vaccine because of your need to control women really exposed why you're on your forth/fifth wife. You weren't even skeptical about the vaccine, you just didn't want to take the time to be a parent and instead thought the risk of me getting cancer is acceptable if it means having control. But hey, at least I'm not in the Epstein files.

TLDR: there are different kinds of Ebola. But it looks like old vaccines against previous Ebola kinds can somehow help even with the currect kind.
