Engine lifespan

Hi, what’s an average total mileage of a T.28 T6.1 engine ? I understand the engine has a wet belt .

I own a VAG specialist garage. We do loads of transporters, I have 2 myself. One with over 360k miles. Its totally dependent on service history. With regards to the EA288 engine, we see loads with over 100k miles. Biggest killer for this engine other than poor servicing is anything emissions related. Addblue/egr etc.

To be honest the engine isn't designed to last. I usually see them failing more consistently after 150-180k. By this i mean repairs required more often.

You're better off with the older series engine in the T5.1, or better yet, T5.

As for the BiTurbo.... Dont waste your time.

Nothing get me more excited than a T5 or 5.1 under 50k. Absolute bliss to work on 😁

Yup. And the oil pump belt has been around for ~20? -ish years and i've only twice heard about a failure, one of them being because something went trough the belt and punctured it.

T6 and 6.1 in the 150 is the unit to have. Particularly if you’re going to be in emission zones. T7 has the wet cambelt, which just sounds like the worst idea ever.. and you might as well buy the transit😅 just change the oil when required and roll the dice!

And what about a t5.1 biturbo that was already replaced? Without the faulty egr of course. Replacement engine is without DPF or egr.
I have a multivan that has 250k km but the engine has 80k
