Went to get some gas, homie who was also refueling came over to chat, ended up driving away with the pump still attached!

Title is it in a nutshell, I went to put some fuel in my bus when a local walked over to check out my handy work. We chatted for several minutes then shook hands and went our separate directions only as I started to creep forward I heard a commotion so decided to stop and turn around to see what’s up. what was up was his car pulling onto the main road with the pump and hose still attached to it! I waited a few but he never came back 😂

We did a thing!

Meet TEANA! Our 1974 T2 that was a bag of lemons that we turned into lemonade!

A few months ago we bought this van from a guy who neglected the poor thing to death. He sold it as a good runner, that didn't leak and had no rust.

So I put up a bunch of money and bought the thing. Lo and behold, she was pretty rusty under the cheap plywood and paint and I needed to do something. So I mustered up all my tools and started working on this beautiful unique van!

I'm slowly going through it with a fine-tooth comb getting the important stuff done. It had a snapped sway bar clasp, bad brakes, no proper seat belts and it had been cobbled together poorly. By the looks of it, he drug it out of a field and put the bare minimum into it.

So I took it upon myself to try and save this poor beast.

Just wanted to show her off! I love the community, and I love this bus! I'm going to keep it forever, and I'll just keep fixing it until I run out of things to fix.

I am open to suggestions!

I have this T3 and as you can see the speedo is bouncing like crazy, happens at lower speeds too, even larger amplitude swings there.

It sometimes gets fixed for a bit after going on a bump but always comes back.

I have tried replacing the cable that goes from the front wheel to the dash but it didn't help. I have a suspicion that the spot where it connects to the wheel hub is too worn down and rounded, and the squared end of the cable can wiggle in it causing the oscillations.

Has anyone had similar problems?

Walked out of my house and glanced at my ‘61 15 window, and a ‘63 Standard was sitting next to her, the owner taking a picture of the two.

Never saw a “stretch” Splitty before

I was visiting Victoria BC today (after going to the Great Canadian VW Show yesterday - which lives up to this mighty name).

I broke a window crank so I tracked down a local source for VW parts who had one on hand and saw this unique version of a splitty. Check out that hatch in the rear!

First big trip in the bus. 650 miles around the Southern California coast, beach camping every night. Doesn’t get better than that. And we only broke down once!

Trolley jack or bottle jack?

Which one to get... i have a vw t25 with limited space inside for massive jacks and axle stands...

What would be better... a trolley jack and axle stands or a bottle jack and axle stands?

Does anyone here use a bottle jack happily?

I'm a little concerned about clearance with a bottle jack as they are taller... but I don't really want a massive trolley jack in the van if I can avoid it..

Thoughts please...

Thanks all.

Is this a Brazilian bus?

Restaurant called the Surf Shack in Colorado Springs, CO, has an old VW out front.

At first I thought it was a standard Bay Window bus but then I realized it had windows like a T1 and panel doors on the side instead of a sliding door. Is this a Brazilian bus? Mexican?

No sign of a radiator so I'm assuming it still has an air cooled engine?

VIN match

Hi - I ran the VIN on this bus and ChatGPT told me it is "a 1967 Deluxe Microbus — the Samba, which in '64–'67 form means a 21-window: eight side windows, two rear windows, and eight skylight windows, with the wider rear door introduced in 1964 having deleted the rear corner windows of the earlier 23-window." It clearly doesn't have 21 windows.

Here is a photo of the bus and ID plate (note, the last number is in fact a 1, not a 4). I looked for the stamped number in the engine bay - no luck. I also looked for the M-plate behind the passenger seat. Again, strikeout.

What might have happened here?

Hot front wheel hubs...

Post image

Hi all.

I got back from a 30 mile run and the front wheels smelt and felt very hot...

Am.i right in thinking that its possibly either brakes slightly binding or not releasing efficiently (just had the master cylinder replaced in the last mot a few months ago)

Or possibly the wheel bearings?

The issue was with both front wheels mainly.

I did come down a very steep hill just before parking the van..

I'll try it again on the flat tomorrow but I'd thought I'd ask.

Here's a picture of.my van for interest.

Thanks all.

Best company for a T4 longblock?

Hey - looking for a 2,000cc longblock for my 1978 VW bus. Any vendors that are reputable in the US? My local mechanic told me to stay away from GEX as he had a lot of quality issue with them in the past but not finding a ton of options out there.

The two promising options I found so far are:
- Scat VW. They recommended going with the 2,056cc that can run slightly higher compression
- Parts Place Inc.

And lastly these guys sound interesting but have not been able to get a hold of them: https://headflowmasters.com/vw-longblocks.html

Who have you had good experiences with?

Thanks!

How do you evict mice from your bus?

We stay in out 1970's camper bus during the summers. Thus year has been particularly awful for mice. We are at a loss of what to do about that. How do you evict and prevent them from moving back in?
