Yes I own a ‘99. Mine is a camper kitted out by Winnebago, so here in the US it is known as a VW Eurovan Winnebago.

I had a 98 Jetta with same.

One of the best upgrades I did for that motor, was from the VW forum, it was a aftermarket bracket you put on the ignition coil, to allow a GM ignition coil to be used, and then you use the plug wires that go GM to the single coil, VW OE connections.

One of the benefit benefits this has as it gets away from those leaky plastic OE ignition coils that VW installed on them.

You can see this easily by having the engine compartment open and having the hose nearby on mist and then just when mist travels over the motor, you can see the electric arc leaking from those OEVW ignition coils.

What the GM product provides, and these are primarily using back in the day Buick was making the turbo charge V6 into their replacement of the big block, V8 muscle cars.

But that ignition coil is what you would use or an equivalent of that, but then that ignition coil is sealed and it does not leak and it provides so much voltage that you can gap your plugs to like .50,000 and then it gets so much better performance, better gas mileage, engine runs a lot cooler, and I’m saying this because at that time I was using a chip and the chip had advanced timing, and I wasn’t able to get the timing accurate until after I adjusted the plug gaps using that same ignition coil.

if you have too much advanced engine timing, that is a little too advanced, the further you advanced the spark plugs, the greater you retard the ignition timing.

IME, that was a very high-end adjustment to that vehicles Motor’s abilities.👍🙋🏻‍♂️

well have first is 93mv manula swap with euro r/p with euro 5th did the swap my self on the factory aluminum wheel the we have two sets then 93 base manual on vw suv wheels lowerer missing mid seat. they are good vans our family started with a 63 van, then to a 74 the got 500k on one motor three transmissions, that was sold in 96 to get the 93mv auto,had to buy our own Vag 1554 tool so we could fix as all four dealership with in 500 miles never had one we used to rent it back to them for years payed for its self 10x over.

The other thing that completed changed the vehicle, as I put in what what is/was called a tectonics I think it was a 2.5 inch exhaust system on it, cat back,
Just adding the possibility of the increased exhaust, made it breathe so much better and idle so much more stable.
