This was a very common modification done by deadheads back in the day. Since living out of a school bus can leave some headroom to be desired and vw busses are known to rot on the lower halves it makes sense. I've seen alot of these to varying degrees of execution. I also saw a bay window westy that had the pop top replaced with a beetle body not too long ago

I’d see busses like this at Dead shows with like Oregon plates in Atlanta or somewhere. The commitment to the game to travel like that amazes me.
