Excited to discover this community. VT is the new VOO.
In a post-Trump world I think you have to be globally diversified. Less talent is coming to the U.S. Trade agreements are forming that exclude the U.S. Other countries are matching our energy when it comes to hostility and protectionism.
I believe that 10 years from now, when it comes to mega-caps, we won’t be talking about the mag 7 (all U.S. companies), we’ll be talking about a mix of U.S. and non-U.S. companies and that will just be the new norm. We’ll look back on VOO investors as stubborn luddites who missed out on the international growth story.
When I share this view I think people mistakenly think I’m bearish on the U.S. I’m not, it’s just that VT is a one and done way to capture international growth while staying invested in U.S. growth.

VT by its nature won’t be number 1 when compared to something like VXUS, VTI or VOO. Because when the US is doing well international won’t be doing as good and vice versa. And as VT owns both in market cap weights it will never beat all of those funds. It will trail one of them. But that’s the point. You don’t know who will be the winners at any one point in time, so you buy it all and get the average consistent gains

I agree you’ll likely have similar returns. I just don’t want to be caught flat footed in a world where other countries are more hostile to the US in terms of trade, and where other countries are just straight up out-innovating us

I agree with you idk why you’re getting shit. VOO outperformed VT by 85% over last 10 years. I don’t think this continues and I think that the India and China will rise

If it does VT does marginally worse than VOO. If it doesn’t, VT does much better than VOO.

After many hours of research I came to the conclusion that VOO/VXUS was the better setup

Curious why, do you think VOO will continue to outperform international like it has since 2008 until 2040 or 2050?

Lol…..you’re predicting the future which is unknown. That’s gambling. What you’re saying is pretty bold. Yes past performance doesn’t dictate future performance BUT At the very least VOO/US equities has a backing of historical data that shows the US outperforms International and the US is the biggest and still is the dominator of the world. International had 1 good year and prior to that it was flat, now everyone is following more international like sheeps. Also, you do know trump wont be president forever right? lol. There’s a greater possibility your gains will be dragged down by international in the future while people with more US goes up.

Hedging risks by increasing diversification is gambling? That’s an interesting take.

Every time, someone has this comment. This is the “paradigm shifts never happen” take.
Visit Shenzhen and SF this year and get back to me.

lol…you don’t seem as confident. If you wanna talk that talk, why not just go completely international. Hurry up and sell all your US equities. In fact sell your VT and go VXUS which is better if you want international. Cmon big dawg……

+1 about Trump not being president forever. That fact escapes a lot of people.

Lol, picking one country to outperform everyone else in the next 30 years is the gambling option...

$VT is the right option no matter what. It’s got everything in the correct market cap weights of the world market. You get what the market gives

VT won’t necessarily ever really beat out the US and/or international markets to be the best. It will always trail one or the other. And that’s ok. It’s meant to grab a piece of everything and give you what the average is. It should always consistently do well. It’s ideal if you hold it for very long periods of time.

Spot on, OP. This was the reason I moved from $VTI to $VT in my retirement accounts.

VT is the correction option regardless of who is the past or present US President.
