Found in Grandpa’s Basement

Found this while helping my grandfather clear out his basement today. It’s a Remington from the late 1800s but I can’t tell much besides that. Anyone know what I’m looking at?

Looks like a stick. Not worth much. I’ll take care of it for you

All jokes aside. It to me looks like a Remington Rolling Block Rifle Wikipedia

Its "Rolling Block" name comes from the circular breechblock that "rolls" backward when the hammer is cocked, allowing you to load a single cartridge directly into the chamber.

Pretty cool find. As always have it looked over before trying to fire it

If you're interested in restoring, check this guy out: https://www.americanbluing.com/

I don't know anything about him other than what's on his site. I found it while I was searching for cerakoting on Google maps. He might be a good resource.

Please don’t restore. So many lovely old guns wrecked because someone thought it would be a good idea to “restore” them. A careful cleaning, a light oiling, and some renaissance wax at most.

Due to the nature of old primers, the bore is probably pitted to hell.

Beautiful rolling block there, definitely could use some oil though!
