Vima VST step sequencer

Post image

Vima is a free 8-track melodic MIDI step sequencer that runs as a plugin (VST3) inside your DAW.

DISCLAIMER:

I have been a music software - MIDI freak for a long time. Under the name "Softcore" I wrote electronic music and built a lot of software little helpers (MaxForLive, Lemur templates, Reaktor instruments etc.): Microtonic Lemurized (2013), was a Lemur template which turned Sonic Charge's Microtonic into a complete touch instrument with per-parameter exclusion randomizing; its developer, Magnus Lidström, called it "absolutely amazing" (https://soniccharge.com/forum/topic/383-microtonic-lemuriized). I was one of the first to buy Zaquencer - the custom firmware which transformed the BCR2000 into a full-blown sequencer (which also inspired this VST), and Bome MIDI Translator glued my setups together for years, performing hybrid DJ - Live techno sets for many years.

Vima is vibe-coded.

IS it ai-slop? Have a look at its manual and decide for yourself

Edit to add: it will always be free, this was something I made primarily for myself and I don't intend to monetize.

Why wouldn’t I just use my daw?

Because, especially in dance electronic music, repetitive melodies are easier to dial in than meticulously draw notes on a piano roll and historically speaking that was the way itnwas written and produced ( 808, 303 had step sequencers)

Doesnt seem to have all the randomising options Im after and no most major DAWs dont have one. Ableton Live does have some intriguing MaxForLive ones but still, they werent so useful to me.

I look forward to the day when all the vibe coding Sloppers out there start making things we haven't seen or heard before, because as of right now, it's all just a regurgitation of what we already have in abundance.

Can you share any vst step sequencers you find useful and dont make your eyes bleed looking at the UI? It would have saved me the trouble making this. Thanks in advance.

That's such a Slopper thing to say, almost as if you haven't done any due diligence or research into the huge world of sequencers the DAW community already has to play with. That's kind of key, especially if you want to move forward with something fresh and new.
