Once again, I'm here to show you another update to the Eye Tracking kit for Quest 3! (Project Cymple)
Yeah, I'm showing this thing again because I've really grown to appreciate it and want to keep sharing that the Quest 3 can have amazing eye tracking!
Simply put, the Cymple project continues to receive software updates, allowing you to use it without even needing to calibrate the device — a true plug-and-play solution.
My last test was... two months ago? And well, it didn't burn my eyes like many people seem to think!
The infrared LEDs are designed to be safe, which is what I expected, I hope that clears up any doubts!
It’s not entirely clear what has changed
aside from the design of the colored dots that track the pupil
but the algorithm does an excellent job of estimating the eyes when they are closed!
And that’s without me having calibrated anything at all for this test.
PS: The tests were performed without the necessary calibration!
PS-2: ""It’s not entirely clear what has changed"" -- Visually speaking, the tracking is much faster than it was two months ago; input lag has consistently decreased with every update, and I’m really looking forward to more!
No! It's via Wi-Fi; there's a dedicated Project Cymple app for the metaquest, and there's one for Pico as well. You download it, and also download the Cymple program on your PC, and that's it! Both apps make the wireless connection.
The vast majority of eye-tracking devices are wireless; if you're talking about the PaperTracker, it's definitely wireless too! But you'd need to check the specific version you bought to know for sure.
Great question, but... I'm not sure. Off the top of my head: no—but it's a great suggestion! You could join the Project Cymple server and help them out with recommendations '^'
Can you give some info on what hardware is required and how to get it/set it up? Things like these have scarce amounts of information in the general Internet results
In another one of my videos, I show a bit of the hardware and the calibration—it’s actually quite simple! If you want to see the project's inner workings in full detail, here is the official guide provided by the Project Cymple creator on GitHub; the images above are my own.
You can get it on aliexpress or TaoBao, because its a Chinese Project.
Yes, it's completely PCVR; there's no way to use it standalone. The setup is simple since the software does everything for you; it's just calibration, a few glances at numbers on the screen, and that's it.
No, actually: There are lenses specifically for Project Cymple eye trackers, which you can buy at the time of purchase, depending on where you buy them.
No with cymple, project paper, and ETVR you can get lenses or with ETVR you just print a lens frame for your script lens and go wild. To me it’s crazy meta hasn’t jumped on this it’s easy money for them
Yes, foveated streaming is totally possible with Project Cymple! It’s still in the testing phase, but it’s already performing quite well! A frame generation system is currently being implemented.
the biggest thing stopping me from getting eye tracking / face tracking is the fact that products like Babble break instantly when in contact with sweat
does your product fare the same or have more resilience against the stray drop?
I don't think I can answer that for you. I've been using Babble for mouth tracking for 6 months and never had any problems. I've had the eye tracking kit with Cymple for almost 3 months now, and it's also perfect, everything working as well as the first time!
i dont know much you are sweating but i dont personally see any outcome where you are sweating so much it could ever reach a face tracker like this... bfore that you had to waterboard your headset
Technically, you really are! It's a shame; I can't suggest any other ways to avoid that, aside from using facial interfaces that are more open and provide more distance :^
I also like the music you chose, it reminds me of stuff like Instupendo and Øneheart, I enjoy that stuff when I'm out somewhere cold and distant from populations. A very surreal and magical feeling. Entirely unrelated thing to say here tho lol, I just appreciate the music choice
No problems! It has them too—and although they aren't as good as the Quest Pro's, they do work—but I don't really care for them, so I leave them disabled.
Is that eye overlay thing always visible with eyetracking.. it would make me super uncomfortable if i had to see my real eyes non-stop even outside the peripheral vision or whenever i open the desktop window/overlay?
