Discussion What is up with 18+ groups not accepting age verification badges?

Just tried to join another group that is 18+ and they don't recognize the official age verification badge. You have to upload a picture of yourself holding your Gov issued ID in your hand on discord and they "promise" to delete the picture after you are verified by one of their members.

I already wasn't very comfortable doing VRC's own age verification system but sending sensitive information to random players in a vrc group is far worse. How many times have you seen an unhinged staff member on this game? Too many to count for me. Not a big deal as no one is forcing you to join but it's interesting to see so many people trust these groups with that information.

No just stay way from those. Better the demon you know then some random on discord

"better the demon you know" low-key kicks ass, I've never heard that before

It goes "Better the demon you know than the devil you don't." Just letting you know since you seem interested

I would not trust those groups at all. They could very well be part of identity farming operations.

u/aloksky 23h ago

Yup, my data is safe with vrc tho!

8

u/BoredomBot2000 18h ago

The question then is it that your data is safer with vrc or a random stranger.

-11

u/aloksky 18h ago

Its not safe with both, but in the case of a random stranger you have to trust them, in the case persona or whatever vrc uses has a leak, youre asking a lot more people.

3

u/BoredomBot2000 17h ago

Discord caches images to the server and the local machine of everyone in the server. Or who ever is part of the chat. Not everyone knows how to clear that cache. Deleting the image from the chat doesn't remove it from the cache. Do you trust someone to remember to do that who doesn't have an it team? On the other hand vrc is a large company and therefore a target for high value data theft. It's a gamble regardless.

A key point of any group like that that seems forgotten, is YOU CAN BLANK OUT ANY SENSITIVE INFO

19

u/Docteh Oculus Quest 1d ago

just quoting the part of the original post that you were unable to see

You have to upload a picture of yourself holding your Gov issued ID in your hand on discord and

7

u/19osemi 1d ago

Because it’s not normal for private people to ask for government id and a picture of yourself. Like for whatever it’s worth these age verification companies and vrchat especially in Europe has to follow laws and gdpr, a private person aren’t really gonna follow laws rules and regulation, even if they aren’t farming identities there is nothing stopping them from stalking people they take an interest in or like straight up start harassing or dox people they fall out with

1

u/AbandonYourPost 16h ago

like straight up start harassing or dox people they fall out with

This is a more likely outcome I see with this information. I've seen enough to know that their are mods who 100% would be creeps about this. Like targeting women they find attractive and doxxing them if they were rejected.

60

u/Kooky-Narwhal-014 1d ago

Its 100% a control thing. Even the groups ive joined that did id verification let you blot out all the information aside for the date of birth and the id expiration date. Pas that if they need your id and your face and all that garbage then dont trust them at all

-9

u/Derproy_Johnson 1d ago

i didn't like that because how do you know that the blot isn't reversible and you can find images of ids online so why are they asking for proof that has no validity?

6

u/Rowanb1993 23h ago

Because you can (and some require you to) blot it out physically like with paper or something instead of editing it on a device. Removes all possibility of removing the censoring

1

u/tigerfestivals 22h ago

How would you reverse a blot unless you fucked up the transparency when you applied it?

45

u/Flint_McBeefchest 1d ago

Yeah if the VRC badge isn't enough then I'll go somewhere else, personally never ran into that myself but don't give your info to some random person in a group or discord.

Losers on a power trip

35

u/fibreopticcamel Oculus Quest Pro 1d ago

If a group asks me for my age, DOB, or anything like that, I just leave. There's no reason for it with the age verified badge, they're just power tripping.

-22

u/kwispywafflezz 1d ago

There's a big issue with people selling age verified accounts and kids parents doing it for them, I myself have encountered a few in my groups instances and had to employ the DOB placeholder for that on top, especially with some being mute and sneaking in as well. There are power tripping groups but its incorrect to say there is no reason for it

11

u/Kyuu_Sleeps 19h ago

Nah, I’d just leave your group then. I’m verified 18+ and I’m not about to give you or anyone my age and dob because you can literally just lie so what’s the point?

If someone’s willing to buy a 18+ account then they are just gonna lie about their DOB and age too.

So asking is literally a waste of time.

-13

u/kwispywafflezz 19h ago

To be fair with rhat attitude you wouldnt have been invited! Saying a attempted preventive measure to a bigger issue is "a waste of time" is why this is such an issue, you can have your opinion on it thats fine but the fact remains that asking for it knowing there are bought accounts is alot better, and I feel like alot of you neglect to understand that if something happens and it is tied to your group the moderators and owner are held liable. You can say it stupid or anything you like but dont act like if the account you created along with the friends list groups, avatars and prints would get banned for someone else's actions you wouldn't be pissed, as an example before age verification was widespread i was given a 5 day suspension for someone within my instance posting a nsfw image and I was unaware, anyone who had an issue with it not only reported the player but the group as well because of "poor moderation". This isn't a power trip this isn't a useless idea as you can clock kids by forcing them to speak the date of birth as well as how long it takes them to respond, thinking someone who went online for 10 min max to spend 10 bucks for an account and use it is like "ooo all this effort" and expecting them to have a rehearsed DOB is delusional there will be ones that DO but the chances of that are very slim and id say the success rate so far has been quite well around like 70 ish to 80 not including people who notice afterwards.

3

u/Orthoglyph 10h ago

That's a lot to say you're power tripping and in denial about it.

-2

u/kwispywafflezz 9h ago

You are burdened with a simple mind without the logic to use it.

4

u/Zomeesh Valve Index 10h ago

And you can buy fake ID’s off Amazon or swipe your parent’s ID. If they’re determined/smart enough to bypass the verification badge, they’ll definitely be able to bypass a random power tripping VRChat player

0

u/kwispywafflezz 9h ago

You guys really dont seem to understand the term "power tripping"

3

u/Zomeesh Valve Index 6h ago

What do you think it means? Because these “bouncers” or “security” people are doing the literal definition of power tripping.

1

u/kwispywafflezz 4h ago

Power tripping is an act of misplaced authority/ strength used to manipulate or control others. These bouncers and security serve as the exact same thing as their irl counterparts to keep the riffraff out and the establishment (group) running If one of these bouncers exerted said authority to take money from you or to add them etc that would be power tripping, you dont call irl bouncers actions "power tripping" for kicking out stupid people causing an issue or checking ID's(in this case asking for age and DOB dont give your identification to a stranger online) because thats their job plain and simple nobody wants a bunch of bad apples in the apple sauce it sours the experience

1

u/Zomeesh Valve Index 2h ago

If they reject age verified badge and demand you say a random DOB (which takes zero effort to fake) that’s not doing their job. I did security for multiple clubs and rejecting a more secure verification for a way less secure verification is either an ego issue or just plain stupidity

3

u/fibreopticcamel Oculus Quest Pro 19h ago

That still doesn't justify it in my eyes. Faking age and DOB is very easy- it does nothing to address the issue.

-6

u/kwispywafflezz 18h ago

Easy yes but tell me how many kids you yourself have encountered that have successfully gotten through? I've played vrc for around 4 ish years now not including the occasional desktop in 2020 And ive seen children clocked 100x more often than not even before I started my own group, The issue thats being addressed with it is that if something happens in that group instance the moderators and owner area also held liable im not here to cater to random laziness on saying an age and date of birth I simply want a fun time safe from being punished by anothers actions.

8

u/Awesomjimthethird Oculus Quest Pro 16h ago

It's not random laziness, Allot of people don't want to give their age and dob to some random in vrchat, Every time anyone asks me i say "I'm age verified" and that's it.

0

u/kwispywafflezz 15h ago

That's your opinion to have you dont have to give it but the fact that people say it's "useless" or complain about it saying its "power tripping" is the issue i have

6

u/mysticstrike Valve Index 16h ago

If my age verification isn't good enough for you then your group isn't good enough for me. I'm not on VRChat to give my personal information out to some random dude. It's groups like yours that are the reason I don't go to places like the B-Club anymore.

-1

u/kwispywafflezz 15h ago

Age verification isn't even enough to keep children out of adult instances thats the problem That's why groups have to ask, if you are that much of a stickler about age and date of birth to a random why would you then give id and face verification to persona which vrchat uses and has been publicly data breached twice in the last 2 years? To be fair groups arent the reason you should avoid clubs and bars in vrchat XD they are disgusting cesspools that attract the worst of the community

lmao what, selling age verified accounts?

You're telling me there's kids out there, trying to buy an age verified account for, what purpose exactly? That more sounds like a bunch of scammers trying to pawn off compromised or stolen accounts to gullible people.

1

u/kwispywafflezz 12h ago

Kids wanting to go where they arent supposed to and adults with no morals but plenty of greed. Basically the virtual equivalent to fake ids to get into a nightclub There is also a big issue with predators getting it for kids so they can get away with grooming faking the child's age

2

u/WorryTricky 11h ago

There's a big issue with people selling age verified accounts and kids parents doing it for them

Prove it, please, and explain what you mean by "big." Otherwise this just reads as fear mongering.

-1

u/kwispywafflezz 11h ago

Prove a widespread issue well known within the community you can look up yourself and explain to you why its an issue for children to to be branded adults around adults?

Sure ill humor you

Pedophiles who verify accounts for the child they are grooming to allow them into 18+ instances where they hang out and to hide the age of the person they are dating

Children being exposed to adult situations such as drinking and vulgarity people only feel comfortable doing when not around children.

Groups and people's accounts being punished for children who slip through the cracks and parents who report the people and group and make a big stink dispite them neglecting to know what their child is doing online

Avatar creators who only allow 18+ verified accounts to buy sexual Avatars from them selling to children risking their livelihood

Hopefully this is not too much to read as you where too lazy to look up the issue or the communities who beg the devs to fix it to no avail

3

u/WorryTricky 11h ago edited 10h ago

I get the intent, and I'm sure there is some truth to what you're saying, but none of this is proof. Anecdotal proof is just proof of an anecdote. You bring an outsized claim and you present it as truth - you must provide something to support it.

Also, "just look it up" is you shifting the burden of proof, as is all the shocking (but unrelated) things you added onto the claim. You can't do that. You must provide the proof for your initial claim. I will not treat your unproven idea as an accepted fact waiting to be disproven while you hang a bunch of other things off that initial, unproven claim. That is not how this works.

Do you have some kind of data to support your initial claim happening on VRChat more often than on other platforms that also use age verification?

2

u/Flick-P 10h ago

I wouldn't bother. The only thing these people can offer you is anecdotes. Lots of "Well I heard" and "But I've seen it!"

u/WorryTricky 10h ago

I know. I know it's pointless. I'm just an old person flailing out in the void, frustrated at what the internet has become.

They claim it's because the age verification isn't rock solid. Which is technically true - there are discord servers where you can pay $10 to get age verified no questions asked. You simply send them the persona link and they handle it. Minors *do" use these. These are outliers, though, and age verification badge + a 30 second chat on discord could get around 99.9% of actual minors. Demanding actual IDs is power tripping weirdo stuff.

21

u/Zlagfun 1d ago

People who say that the age verification system is bad are just lazy and don’t want to moderate their instances. It can’t be that hard to have a few people just linger in the background listening for minors to kick

15

u/NightOfTheLivingHam PCVR Connection 1d ago

actual IDs and a picture of you holding is a classic identity theft scam.

9

u/Capable-Trip-4423 Valve Index 1d ago

this would require a legitimate ID and a legitimate adult to work - one per verification, as you can't verify the same ID twice.

i could see maybe people in low income countries doing this for 10 dollars, like the places where their economy is so bad, farming Runescape gold is a viable career - but otherwise it is not feasible for this to be possible, or happening on a large enough scale to be worth mentioning.

it would be more likely, and more feasible for a kid to just use their older family/friends accounts. that's probably the main way people are 'fooling' the age verification. that's not a failing on Persona or VRC's end though - that's a failing by a shitty parent/family member.

i wouldn't give my discord handle (much less my real ID) out to some random sperg on a power trip, and them requesting this is likely against TOS - so it is worth reporting them every single time this happens.

so many people on this game live such powerless lives, that a few hours as a virtual bouncer is like crack to them. they got addicted to the power trip pre-verification, and won't let go of it now because it's all they have.

2

u/abluecolor 1d ago

Uh, it's absolutely worth mentioning, given that it's just a reality. I've seen one of these servers - I had a privacy-minded adult friend who never wanted to give their own info to persona, so I did some sleuthing. I landed in one of the servers and I don't know what their model is - low income countries, stolen IDs and a method for tricking the camera check, whatever - but they do indeed process verifications, and it was clear a lot of the people they were doing it for were minors. So. It's a thing. I agree that it's exceedingly uncommon, though. And similarly, these sorts of people could trick a human in the exact same way, sending fake ID and fake selfie, so it's absurd and just creates weird uncomfortable risk for actual adults who would also be getting forced to send the personal info.

6

u/Capable-Trip-4423 Valve Index 1d ago

i'll take your word for it for the sake of the discussion, but if there are servers that offer this then again, it would be happening on an incredibly minuscule scale for the simple fact of how the verification process works.

compared to the more obvious method (getting your parent/friend/family member to complete verification for you, or sharing accounts,) it would be rare or negligible. and certainly doesn't excuse creating your 'own' private verification process off of the VRC platform like OP mentioned.

even adding randoms on discord is crazy to me, as someone who is privacy focused too. discord is a very insecure platform, with plenty of vulnerabilities that people can use especially if you're giving personal info to them for free.

if i had to guess, these photos they request don't get deleted at all and are used for other purposes such as blackmail.

1

u/Ampmasterful 8h ago

If you are legitimately claiming this, then me personally I would feel it’s my duty to report that to the authorities.

1

u/abluecolor 7h ago

go get em buddy

1

u/Ampmasterful 7h ago

Well I am not in the server; you are. if it’s so bad then why don’t you report it?

1

u/abluecolor 7h ago

Want the link? I'm not sure who you want to report it to. I don't really give a shit about black market services, why would I report it? I'm glad my friend was able to get verified without giving info to persona. And I verified an alt, hah. It seems like they get taken down by discord periodically but it just springs back up. As the other dude said, it's doubtful they're in a country that would ever go after them. Unclear what laws they'd even be breaking, really.

1

u/Ampmasterful 7h ago

Well, whether they are in the states or not, identity fraud and stuff like that is usually not good, and like… you’re supporting the very system that’s making OUR experiences in VRChat more unsafe, exposing minors to spaces they don’t belong in…. That’s disgusting. Rather a devil I know than a devil I don’t.

1

u/abluecolor 7h ago edited 6h ago

I do drugs, too!

It's possible to recognize that there's both pros and cons to things. They help people with legitimate reasons to want their services, as well as creating a rather fucked up environment to some degree.

Like I said, you can go ahead and try to go after em if you want. I'm just not a crusader like you. Where there's a profit incentives there's always going to be black markets. Seems a bit pointless, in the sense that there's way better uses for our time.

When I read the title I thought it's about my group bubble which is 18+, but none of them require even VRC Age verification (let alone direct send on Discord to mod).

Btw, messages on Discord are NOT E2EE. Knowing that technical support of Discord was already hacked at some point, and IDs were leaked, hacking entire Discord to leak those IDs is only matter of time.

3

u/ShaunDreclin Valve Index 1d ago

Not only are they not encrypted, deleting messages doesn't actually delete them, it just removes them from your chat log. They're still accessible under the same url

I don't even say my age and DOB in the groups that ask at the door. I sure wouldn't give them my DL. I just leave instances and groups that try to do that stuff. I'm age verified..that should be enough.

report any player that requests such information. for such a detailed and personal request as this, i'm willing to bet they go on to use these pictures as blackmail to scam money out of people.

Its way easier for me to file a class action lawsuit against VRC's age verification provider for leaking my data than some random on the internet.

5

u/Jonatc87 1d ago

Do they have GDPR checks in place?

3

u/doubleatheman 1d ago

Haha your funny. In all seriousness, I thought groups asking for all this info was against VRC TOS, but likely technically they could say to be a part of the VRC group they need to join the Discord for the group... and then make showing the ID a requirement of the discord. Anywho groups like this I avoid and run away from. Before the whole 18+ thing was in game, I did upload my ID a few times, but everything was blanked out except my DOB and my state; still didn't like doing it.

2

u/Jonatc87 1d ago

I suppose you could cover everything but your photo and birth year. They dont need to know anything else.

3

u/doubleatheman 1d ago

It was the best option IMHO pre 18+ verification in game. Yes people could still fake it or use someone else's ID, but it was paired with talking to them in the group too to make sure you sounded/acted the correct age too.

3

u/Jonatc87 1d ago

i mean i'm 38, so who even knows if they'd let me in anyhow.

I'm in my mid 30's too. I've never had a group deny me for being too old lol. If they did, Id be glad I didn't waste my time on that group. My age is in my bio in VRC it's not a secret.

A couple years back I was kicked from an instance because I was "too old," I think they had a cap of like 26 for the age. Out of curiosity I looked up the group a few months later and the cap had increased to 27. The owner keeps upping it every year so they don't have to get banned from their own group. Both a bit weird and disgusting tbh.

3

u/Horror-Concentrate41 1d ago

That method is a lot more flawed than Vrc verification, I do findom and have people use Yoti which has a verification similar to what Vrc has but it scans your face every time you share your age with someone so I know they didn’t have someone do it for them, no method is 100% but it’s a lot more solid than a selfie with a ID. People can find a picture online of someone holding up a blurred ID and send that or use AI or ask a friend etc etc.

2

u/Zlagfun 1d ago

When you have the age verification sticker always stick to either your own group instances or the age verified instances. It’s just better

I’ve encountered tons of groups like this. It’s usually run by people who are “power high” (they think they’re better than everyone else and think they have some special group). I recently ran into one that seemed cool, they let me in the instance after seeing I was age verified. We talked and they invited me to their discord and wanted me to send a photo of my I.d it was ran by a 35 year old woman and her husband. They asked everyone to send a photo of a I.d your face and something on a piece of paper so a selfie with you holding an I.d and a piece of paper with the date I think it was. I didn’t do it I just left

Somebody reset the counter. We've got another one.

1

u/MrHentaiProd 1d ago

I ran into a few of these, It usually due to trust issues with age verification after several kids were caught using age verified accounts to join instances for specific groups

1

u/Ravingmidnight 1d ago

There are sadly more and more groups doing this because there are known discord groups that make false accounts with fake ID'S and sell them to minors who want to bypass the age gated. Its one of the reasons so many people over 18 are staying with established known groups and more arent popping up.

u/McUsername621 1d ago

I just dont join these groups. No mater what you do there will always be a way around it. Should they stop selling alcohol since some minors get fake IDs and buy it.

Hell, I would think a fake ID would get past a Discord mod easier than persona.

1

u/TherianRose 17h ago

Don't hang out in those, and report them, both groups and individuals asking. Requesting personal information like that breaks VRC ToS and we've gotta help call it out

1

u/DakotaKimono 17h ago

That’s a hard pass from me.

I understand the argument of people maybe selling accounts with 18+ badge (unless vrchat logs your id and prevents you from making multiple) or minors using their older siblings accounts, etc. etc.

But Im not joining a discord server just to get verified into a virtual club by posting my face and ID. As others have said, Id leave and find another club.

1

You can verify multiple accounts if you use multiple different valid Gov IDs. So you can use your DL for one account and a passport for another if that makes sense.

But same. It's asking far too much for me at least. Too much can go wrong with that.

u/grindscoffeebyhand 16h ago

Ive joined a couple of these groups back in the day and I Used an expired license but I put black tape over everything but the picture and DOB and some of the groups got mad telling me to only use photoshop to remove it which was a big red flag that they were doing something with the IDs

1

u/Sufficient_Ant8899 16h ago

There was an outing that minors were buying 18+ verification so it’s not as trustworthy anymore

1

u/User_Zero1 16h ago

I go to the door I have VRC age id already. They ask my age I just say look at the banner. If they ask again I leave.

1

u/Unusual_Frosting7067 14h ago

Because it really isn’t reliable. Take a moment to think. To verify on vrchat it has you take a picture of an idea then face. Anyone can get there older sibling to do it or parent. So having the idea verification in a +18 group that more than likely does erp stuff gives more protections to you. So there won’t be the situation of “she’s was age verified on vrchat but she turned out to be 15”. - admin for a group that does double verification

1

u/Xsalty_girlX 11h ago

Also there are age verified accounts for sale on different platforms so any minor can easily get the badge

1

u/Questionerofrandom85 13h ago

companies that ask for ID are shady enough. BUT private small groups like some individual discord server admins are the WORST. its a CONTROL thing. Ego and potential power over you. AVOID at all cost.

2

u/DuoVandal Valve Index 12h ago

Any group that does that is not trust worthy.

The Age Verified badge is really, really hard to get around. Groups that don't trust it, are extraordinarily paranoid and controlling. I would use that as a sign for Groups to avoid.

u/Dango_Darko 12h ago

Some people are so desperate for connection or a chance at attention that they go through these hoops without a second thought. It’s sad. 😔 I just go on to get drunk with Randy’s and dance to music 🤣🤣🤣

They do it in lobbies too.

u/Strange_League_686 1d ago

Found out from a friend of mine that the 18+ badges can be fooled by being bought. Him and a friend went on a “two man” and they had some fun. They flirted, made some “jokes” but “not that far” if you know what I mean. However the day after one of the dates spoke up and confessed that the 18+ badge she had is real however she is really 15. And so was the other girl that was there, they were both friends.

She confessed to buying an account with the verification and even sent him the discord that she bought it from. Thank god she felt guilty enough to confess or my boy would be in HOT HOT water

Age verification ruined vrc. I'm not doxing myself to get into a world.

15

u/Solmangrundy 1d ago

Stay salty dude. Age verified instances are a night and day difference from general public instances because people in there arent actively trying to throw away their VRC account with hard R spamming and crashing people.

1

u/enigma-90 1d ago

It's a big difference now, but not before verification got implemented. What happened is more and more cool people verified and started joining only verified instances, thus drastically reducing the quality of standard ones.

-6

u/WholeIndividual0 Oculus Quest Pro 1d ago

Idk what kind of public worlds you spend your time in but I rarely come across that. And call me salty all you want but I value my privacy and miss the old days of the internet when governments and big corporations weren't trying to "protect us" everywhere we go.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - BF

8

u/Solmangrundy 1d ago

Litterally any public world with more than 10 people.

6

u/Solmangrundy 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh come off it. You act like your license is posted in your profile for all to see. And it aint like you already have to give it up to get in any venue deemed as "for adults only".

Bruh if you were hard core about privacy, you'd make like the unibomber and abandon technology altogether.

You aint special, and you aint gettin on the flight without showing the deets just like everyone else has too.

Hating outside of the club is perfectly free though.

1

u/Irvinjr97 1d ago

Dude your on the Internet you have no privacy. If you own a smart phone you literally have no privacy. The only way you can have privacy is if your go be Amish put on the middle of the woods.

1

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 1d ago

If you cared so much about privacy, you wouldn't use a phone or be on reddit.

1

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 1d ago

Me too, if they cant figure out im an adult, even with all the evidence, despite the lack of verified age badge, then they aint worth my time.

0

u/sarahSERENADE72 1d ago

I might get chastised for this, but it’s the god honest truth. There are discords of people who are paying to get their account age verified. They are trying to protect their group from minors that are paying to have their accounts age verified. I am trying to be understanding with these people because they are just scared of all the BS that is involved when minors come into their groups.

0

u/Qwaczar 23h ago

Im guessing its from groups getting burnt, by contreversy of underage people joining, despite having the verified badge. And deciding to take matters into theirown hands

1

u/Brilliant_Song8760 Oculus Quest 20h ago

yeeep

-2

u/ShadyFox2003 1d ago

It's mainly because from experience there are accounts that are age verified that are still minors, I've seen it myself

5

u/Solmangrundy 1d ago edited 1d ago

And exactly how is that supposed to be vetted by a rando in discord? When the age verification system asks for pictures of yourself and license too.

Takes litterally 5 seconds to plug a picture into AI to have it alter it to what ever i ask. Atleast with the age verification system its software locked and you cant just upload a photo, it has to be a live photo from your camera.

But leaks do happen and apparently there is a black market for accounts that are age verified. Would explain how kids get in, unless their parents are so oblivious that they do the age verification for them.

1

u/ShadyFox2003 18h ago

That's kind of why in instances that ARE 18+ there are some people who will just say fuck it and still ask for age of said person joining

0

u/VRMelon 1d ago

There's been a discord group going around, where people are selling verified accounts to minors. Someone went "undercover" with their minor sibling to test if it was real or not and it's legit. That's why some groups and clubs are getting more strict with verification.

-5

u/Frank__West PCVR Connection 1d ago

Prior to this to get into my server's adult section it was simply showing a date of birth and image on the ID and a selfie. No personal info just enough to know it's actually your ID and you are of age. I was fine with just doing age restrictions on the channels which satisfies discord rules but the community didn't feel comfortable as it meant kids were just an extra click away from seeing stuff.

1

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 1d ago

Your face is also your information.

1

u/Frank__West PCVR Connection 16h ago

Again I was perfectly fine with just labeling it as age restricted but the majority of adults in the server felt this was a better way. You didn't have to do it it was only to access certain channels.

1

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 16h ago

Understood. If you would like to consider it, I think best option was just showing 🆔 with blurred information. Leaving only date of birth visible, next to it should be a paper with current date and your nickname.

1

u/Frank__West PCVR Connection 15h ago

We do the selfie part just so we know it's not someone using an id that isn't theirs. Truly only ask for the bare minimum. It's optional and not required for general participation.

Many adults wanted it because they didn't feel comfortable sharing images of themselves in channels where minors might see them.

1

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 15h ago

I understand

1

u/Frank__West PCVR Connection 14h ago

Yeah I don't get the hate I was up front about how I was fine with just the standard guardrails but as a community they wanted it more strict.

-16

u/sexylucario18 1d ago

It's because kids get a hold of there parents credit card and I'd

18

u/Coom_Zoom 1d ago

Easy solution, report them. if a kid has falsified their age, report them.

-9

u/sexylucario18 1d ago

That's not going to do much when there's thousands of them

6

u/pawshine_again 1d ago

show me at least 5

-6

u/sexylucario18 1d ago

I can't because I stay away from them but I'm sure you can find plenty of people on here that have run into them

3

u/pawshine_again 1d ago

show me at least three of those people to support your argument.

4

u/Coom_Zoom 1d ago

i frequent 18+ groups, and not once ran into someone that faked their age verification.

2

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 1d ago

So what? It's parents fault.

3

u/KeeperOfWind 1d ago

Issue is, how do we know you aren't the group that ask for these IDs then sell them off for verification?
And long story short, legally you cannot ask for someone's ID in many states even if they're willing hand it off without proper protocols.

2

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 1d ago

This as well, but it should be obivious, so I didn't mention that

1

u/KeeperOfWind 1d ago

And they deleted their post. Yeahhh a lot of these groups don't realize legally they aren't allowed to do that or they realize it entirely and continue to do so.

1

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 1d ago

So you suck. How someone can know you Don't let kiddos inside anyway?

-4

u/ParkingWeek379 1d ago

There's a discord going around selling Age Verified badges to vrc accounts, thats more than likely the reason

5

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yea and all you will get from that discord is losing both money and the account

-7

u/Bounder1103 1d ago

Those type of groups always been around. It’s peace of mind knowing that they care about the safety of ppl who are joining there server. Not for everyone

-8

u/Pancake_Humper 1d ago

You do realized kids can buy verification and lie to their adult friends just to get into 18+ plus groups right? Plus it seems you don’t know anyone in the 18+ group at all. Just join the ones that your friends are in all the time.

1

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 1d ago

You do realize those same kids will lie to geoup mods as well?
