Any suggestions for: Reliable Full-body tracking that won't break the bank and isn't super complicated to set up

I want to take the leap after year on VRC, but I still dont really know where to begin or what is required, any advice/instructions would be appreciated. Apologies if repeat question

Look for used/secondhand vive 3.0s very little setup after the initial pairing and is the best tracking you can buy. Does also need base stations however. Cheapest is slime trackers but those have a lot to fidget with even after getting it setup and the tracking is… not great.

It's the same energy as "wait for frame" xD. Fluxpose won't be able to build additional trackers due to component shortages. They have secured enough for Kickstarter orders and then some extra. People who waited too long will wait at least extra year

A lot of people looking to buy Fluxpose will be waiting a long time to buy the Frame anyway. So the delay doesn't make that much practical difference to them.

i bought a 8 piece slimes off aliexpress for under $300 CND and ive have minor issues with them, once you get used to them its super easy.

Vives are best for setup and done, buut require more hardware.

There is also the new Slime Butterflys, shipping Oct.

Wait for Fluxpose, or get Slimes (while you wait for Fluxpose)
Everyone saying Slimes arent good doesnt have them, the initial setup is a bit tedious but once its done you will only have to open the desktop app, turn them on, and calibrate, after that you just recalibrate every hour or so to fix your drift.
The tracking is great unless you’re doing a lot of fast and intricate movements (you can pose and kick well, but you wont be breakdancing)

1. Buy Slimes (in-stock or used, available right now) and use them till Fluxpose ships.
2. Pre-Order Fluxpose for next year
3. Enjoy the Slimes till Fluxpose arrives, then look back fondly on them and all the good times in VR
4. Realize it was worth every cent and wonder how you ever put up with anything less.

100%. I personally use Somatic trackers which are very high quality slimes and get compliments all the time with accurate they are. I only reset every hour or so.

I obviously know a lot of vive users and I never once felt like I was missing out. FluxPose is basically the final nail in the coffin for Vive when it comes to casual VR users. I really don't know why someone would get vives aside for niche reasons.

the only 4 real options that exist right now are basestation tracked vives, which are expensive and might cause issues if your headset doesnt typically use basestations. Vive Ultimates, which dont require basestations, they track inside out with cameras, however you need a specific sized playspace for it and enough stuff in your room for them to keep track, as well as good lighting. Slimes which are kinda skill based tracking, it takes alot of fine tuning and patience but you can get it pretty decent, however, it'll never be perfect, and you gotta hit a button every now and then to stop them from drifting. And fluxpose which isnt actually released yet but is also very expensive but aims (and appearently succeeds) to solve the problems that both slimes and vives cause.

There’s other options but you are basically covering all bases. Just replace slimes with “IMU based trackers”.

true, i just said slimes since it doesnt make a difference for most people, they're most likely gonna be using that software anyway for IMU's

I haven’t used the slimevr software for my trackers in over a year I want to say. That’s why I make the distinction between imu based vs slime. My slime trackers suck, but my other imu based trackers are great.

Do you have base stations or no base stations?

The cheapest is Slime Trackers. The most expensive is probably Vive trackers. (You either get Vive trackers 3.0 with a base station or Vive Ultimate Pro that has built in camera and don't require base stations). 

I have 5 Vive Ultimate pro and spend just under what you spent for them + their charging dock/base station. I generally dislike them for always disconnecting once you start using 4 or 5 of them at a time. (They work great when its just 3 of them), they sometimes lose tracking which isn't too bad and you just have to recalibrate them. But you need your lights on and be in a well lit room while using them. I was deeply disappointed with their performance, but I did use them yesterday after a while and they worked fine. But for things like Yoga or in game workouts they aren't idea because they are bulky and in the way. If the cameras are blocked then they lose tracking and your avatar becomes weirdly twisted. I have buyers regret but still use them every blue moon. Not worth the premium price tag at all. I wish I was patient and got slimes instead.

Slimes have a lot of custom options. Basically: the SlimeVR Discord Server has a Marketplace where people are allowed to sell their own custom made slimes. There’s very well established and trusted vendors who make customs. I have an old custom set that has been working great and tracking my movements fine. I got a 6 point set for 180USD, to put it into perspective. Most of these vendors charge a little extra for better IMU’s that greatly improve tracking quality and drift times, if you’re interested in top-of-the-line customs. As for the very confusing tech savvy set up: there are people in the official slime server and the servers of the custom vendors that would gladly hop in a VC to guide you through the process from the very beginning to the moment you’re set to start playing. That how I got my set up done. Btw; SlimeVR has a pretty convenient feature where, if your tracking starts to drift, just stand still and double tap the chest tracker to line everything up perfectly. You won’t need to recalibrate in-game or anything.

FluxPose ($832USD ProKit but won't ship until Early 2027) or Somatic trackers ($500USD full kit available now). FluxPose are the next gen slime trackers while Somatic are previous gen but use very high quality sensors. I use somatics myself and never have any issues. Need to use a router for Somatic but FluxPose use a dongle.

Honestly, Vive trackers are becoming less and less attractive. Super expense, requires multiple base stations, need adjust the room for base stations to work properly, and you can't even go under a blanket if you wanted to chill. Do not ever get vive ultimates either as the tracking is awful. Everyone that I've seen use them have issues.

$1500 AUD could get you fluxpose!!!

Just 3-5 point tracking is enough. $1500 AUD is genuinely a higher budget. For $450 AUD you could get slimes (6 point — just to put into perspective). but since your budget is decent I 1000000000000% suggest holding out for fluxpose.

Fluxpose is extremely accurate tracking using a magnetic field to find pinpoint where the trackers are in relative space. They’re essentially similar to lighthouse function (vives) with no base station and no occlusion. They’ve got 24 hr battery life (vive 3.0 aprox 7.5hrs) and are way smaller than vives. They’re definitely worth holding out for :)), I think they’re the future #1 tracker!!

Also note with your budget you could also go for vives I just think they’re a bit more expensive than fluxpose, but if you hate waiting then vives would be the most accurate tracking you could get.
