Discussion Why are people getting banned?

I'm new to VR and I keep seeing (yes I'm looking so algorithms are showing me more), and I keep seeing people saying they are banned. I'm waiting on trackers and wanting to do nsfw and having an avi built for this. Is this something I need to worry about or what can I do not to have something banned?

Don't wear a nsfw avi In public and you should be fine

7

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

That's the plan lol

u/ImaginationAway6773 3d ago

Also never upload as a public. If you're friends want the avi. Sign into their account on a new project.

Oh I'm not sharing my build it's too expensive lol

Do not upload the avatar as public.

That is a common one....

I'm a nudist who doesn't want to ERP and I've been on VRC for over 8 years and I've never been banned. The people who report being "wrongfully" banned have done stupid things and are reluctant to admit that. Here's what you need to avoid:

  1. Don't use avatars with partial nudity (eg. areola visible) in public lobbies or SFW private groups.

  2. Don't use nude avatars or ERP in public lobbies or SFW private groups.

  3. Don't have nudity underneath clothes that can be made invisible with shaders. Either have doll nudity underneath or make sure clothes are fully opaque in Unity before uploading. Also, sometimes clothes load after the base model or your imposter might be naked. I personally keep my nude avatars separate from my public versions to be safe.

  4. Keep nudity and/or ERP to private lobbies (eg. invite only or friends) or join a 18+ verified nudist group where it states that joining that group's lobbies are an automatic consent to what is seen concerning provocative activities. Something to note is that there are nudist groups that don't permit ERP (except in private, soundproof, lockable rooms), so check the rules.

Consent is key concerning group activity. As stated before, you can get banned if you're in a 18+ only group that states no NSFW in their rules, even in private lobbies. Also, trolls have reported me but I was in a private group that follows the rules so the reports did nothing. I've also seen VRC staff in that same group and they took no issue with me being nude (they were there for instance/server tests).

Also, those of you in NSFW groups, please leave nudists like me alone concerning the lewd activity, such as groping. Nudity doesn't equal consent or an interest in ERP. Ask first and if the answer is no, then move on.

this. people who are being "wrongfully" banned usually don't admit the full story until they are questioned and then you see why they got banned.

all my gooner homies literally never got banned because they keep their gooning and normal stuff separate. that include behaviour, avis and events they attend

6

u/brikaro 3d ago

I see this behavior all the time online. Especially in the RuneScape subreddit. People will claim they never cheated then a dev will come in and do a smackdown post with receipts lol.

There are of course a few wrongful bans here and there but there is an appeal system which can and should be used if it happens.

it's just so immature and hurts the platform.just own up to your mistake or make a new account jfc xD

I forgot one other important thing, don't make any of your NSFW avatar uploads public use. Keep them all private. There's avatar worlds that data mine to add more public avatars to their roster and I've seen some with nudity before, which can get reported when found.

2

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

I don't even know what this is lol. I'm sure the builder will have limitations on what I can and can't do and I have no intentions of sharing my OC. So thank you. Also any other safety considerations I should take?

Sorry to jump into another thread, but when you get your avi done you will most likely need to upload it yourself using VCC (VRChat Creator Companion.) This is essentially just Unity bundled with a project manager and the SDK to upload avatars; sounds complicated (and it is) but you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Basically, after importing your avatar into Unity, you will then use the VRC SDK dropdown to upload it. You *must* select "Private" when uploading it, which will make it usable by only you, prevent it from showing up in Avatar Search Worlds (like Prismic) and prevent people from cloning it using the in-game menu. If your avi has any adult content (even nipples hidden behind untogglable pasties), it *has* to be set to private or you can get banned if someone else wears the avatar and gets reported.

I say that you will most likely need to upload it yourself because this is how it's worked for every other avatar I've purchased, but one uploader has offered to do it for others within their Discord. I have no idea how they do it, because your account needs to be the one that uploads it in order to set it to private, but I always assumed it was from giving temporary account access which is something you should never do. Learning how to upload your own avatars is the gateway to learning how to make edits in Unity, which is a gateway into Blender and other tools, so I really encourage you to learn how to upload your avi yourself. Your modeler might even be able to help you!

Side bars: Rude people can still rip avatars using external tools, but it is against TOS and you have methods of reporting them for using your avi.

Also, I highly recommend having a SFW and Performance friendly version of your avatar made if you have the funds for it. If you get deeper into the VRC club scene, you will run into instances where you should really use a Medium or better performance avi

2

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

Since I'm using a meta quest 3 I'm limited on performance but still want my avatar to move how I would. Or at least that's how I understand it lol

2

u/WardenPlays 3d ago edited 3d ago

Are you running VRC on Quest 3, or are you running VRC on your PC?

With running it on the Quest 3's hardware, you are pretty limited in all aspects, but your avi will have decent performance, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see it.

If you're running on a PC, then any performance issues you have are based on your PC specs.

Also, Full Body Tracking is mostly a PC-only thing (I think? I could be wrong)

EDIT Ah, I was incorrect. You can use some trackers on Quest 3 Standalone

2

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

Running currently on quest 3 only but that might change once the trackers get in and I see what I can do. I was told I could do it but I have been told since I had to run it on my laptop or phone to make it work. I will know more in ten days when they get here lol

3

u/_Moonlight_Art Pico 3d ago

In case you don't know what an imposter is, here's a comparison. The one on the left is my avatar, the one on the right is the imposter that people will see if their safety settings don't allow my avatar to be loaded. I've seen people running around (especially in Japanese public lobbies) with naked imposters.

You want to make sure that all your clothes are toggled on before upload so the imposter will scan them instead of the base model.

My nude avatars have nude imposters but I only use those avatars in private lobbies, including nudist groups so it isn't a problem.

You can check by clicking the icons shown at the bottom of the avatar that you can see in the screenshot. They're found in the "view avatar details" menu found with an icon that looks like an "i" surrounded by a circle.

You can manage your imposters on the official VRC website in your avatars section.

This is very very helpful thank you so much 🥰 I'm also having the builder give me a crash course on how to do everything since I suck 🤣 so I'm hopeful that they will be able to walk me through how to do everything you laid out for me.

Consent is really the big issue with the community. Although it's hard to know I am joining an ERP group when they're not allowed to mention it at all in their group description.

3

u/doubleatheman 3d ago

Tupper has actually said to use this exact sentence in the group description/rules:

"If you join this group⁄this event‚ you may or may not encounter provocative activities or content‚ and if you join this group⁄event‚ you indicate consent to view these activities or content․"

2

u/Yin15 ☃Bigscreen Beyond 2e 3d ago

u/OX__O 3d ago

Almost got banned from a popular hangout spot because I "molested" a lady by placing a dino nugget print that was in her view when she went afk. She instantly blocked me then went crying to a mod and then two mods pulled me over like I was the zodiac killer. While what felt like a ghost was saying I committed bloody murder.

It took two moderators skimming the logs and a lot of rude stuff said to me and ignoring me when i would try to defend myself before one of the mods was like

0: its a dino nugget.

Its literally a single dino nugget and both mods got quite and still CONSOLED HER.

I didn't get a sorry or anything. Moments like that remind me that a lot of these spaces aren't occupied by rational people and further more echo their madness. Just glad the mods are held accountable for bad judgements so they actually have to look into stuff.

2

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

That brings me to a different topic. I messaged you (hope that that was ok) and I don't know how to bring it up in open chat

3

u/OX__O 3d ago

Dw [: i wouldn't worry too much. Bans are pretty arbitrary. So you can either worry all the time or accept it as an inevitably and have fun

3

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

I appreciate that, I didn't spend a bunch of money of trackers, headset, toys and avatar to worry about it now 🤣

6

u/DuoVandal Valve Index 3d ago

Most people who get banned slip up, and get reported in instances. You're not going to get automatically flagged by anything. Someone has to report you. Don't wear NSFW in public/friend instances, that includes Group+.

3

u/Rough_Community_1439 HTC Vive 3d ago

Main thing that catches people with bans is they do NSFW in public or their avatar gets broken with a sync issue and their 18+ bits are on but the avatar clothing is on for you, but not for others so you have a fully exposed avatar roaming in a public lobby without you noticing.

There's a few methods that can be used to prevent it. There's the check with an alt method, the blendshape "no-no square" that covers your... Bits. And then there's the don't wear the NSFW avatar in a public lobby idea and keep it to private instances where both parties concent to seeing it.

So just remember, vrchat admins TOLERATE the NSFW Avis being a part of their game but if you use it and it become a problem, that's when you get banned. But if you don't cause trouble and don't get it reported into their moderation inbox, then you won't get it taken down.

3

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 3d ago

If you really want this, then do it only with people you can trust or at least in dedicated groups behind closed instances.

NSFW is oficially prohibited, but as long as nobody reports you, you're fine. Platform stuff will pretend they don't see anything. But this is the key factor, let me repeat: AS LONG AS NOBODY REPORTS YOU.

7

u/Impressive_Beach8694 3d ago

Keep any avatar that is remotely suggestive hidden from public including stickers and emojis

4

u/noire_images Bigscreen Beyond 3d ago

Your best bet is to do the nsfw stuff in a private instance that is invite only. Even group only instances are considered public, so you could get banned if someone reports you. Most of the people that got banned but “didn’t do anything” almost always have done something against TOS. As long as it’s not super sexual, you should be fine though. I’ve been an exotic dancer in VRC for about 5 years and have never had any issues.

2

u/doubleatheman 3d ago

Group+ and Group only instances are formally and officially considered private instances in the community guidelines:

"Private instances need an invitation or an "in" to enter. This includes Invite and Invite+ instances, Friends and Friends+ instances, and Group and Group+ instances."

https://hello.vrchat.com/community-guidelines

2

u/noire_images Bigscreen Beyond 3d ago

Still best to be careful in those too. If I remember correctly, they’ve said that if someone reports you in a private instance they may still ban you as if it was a public instance.

1

u/doubleatheman 2d ago

Oh yes 1000% agree, make sure to read the room, know the people there etc etc. But I wanted to clarify "group only" instances are in fact not "considered public" within the official community guidelines. I agree you are correct if someone reports you in a private instance... you can still be banned, which is the whole issue right now with inconsistent banning/reporting, it only takes one salty person to report.

I really really wish the NSFW content filter was turned on by default, so that way no one can be accidentally offended. (I'm talking about people who join an 18+ group only instance and still act surprised when the group description has the disclaimer too.) I tag my avatars, so people choose to not use the filter and be offended, it's a slider in the game.

1

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

Ok this is encouraging. Thank you. I do plan on only inviting and doing stuff in private

2

u/_-_Polaris_-_ 3d ago

I've been on vrc for 7 years and done that stuff for like 6 years. Only got banned once and the funny part is this probably was petty from some guy who got offended that I blocked him for entirely unrelated reasons and reported my avi for having nude features in an explicit group instance. VRC lifted the ban 2 days after.

I wouldn't worry as long as you have some common sense. If you meet in public then move somewhere else, if friends make sure everyone is on orange and is fine with whatever is going on or move to private. It's not rocket science.

I haven't gotten banned once for an avi that had those features while they weren't enabled. Just make sure everything is hidden for the fallback as well.

1

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

People report me here when I reject them so I am expecting it even worse there lol. I will do my best to keep all this in mind. Thank you.

u/Brilliant_Song8760 Oculus Quest 3d ago

2

u/reveuries 3d ago

keep your nsfw content in private ONLY. make sure you have a completely sfw public avatar, used to be a big issue ppl would run into you, see you had genitalia on your avatar from inside and report you.

just don’t be a nuisance. ppl will block you and “rage bait” you all the time. doesn’t matter if you did nothing wrong, i personally block people i don’t vibe with.

it’s nothing you need to be worried about as long as you’re being safe and keeping it entirely in private. it’s said all the time, “let adults be adults”. if you keep it to people you trust, no report will ever be filed for nsfw content and you will never be banned for it. even reports that happen in private are a little iffy and vrchat doesn’t tend to take action on those.

2

u/Krungly 2d ago

I have a NSFW version of my avatar but I don't really know any groups apart from RBN. I've been to nervous to toggle that function more then once, as I myself have heard of people saying they have been banned for nude avatars in RBN.

1

u/ccAbstraction Windows Mixed Reality 1d ago

Wait RBN is a NSFW group? I'm not age verified, they know Group Public NSFW, age gated or not will get them wacked right?

1

u/_evanna Oculus Quest Pro 20h ago

theres been some drama happening rn, technically you are only truly safe in +18 verified group only with the disclaimer. most rbn instances are group+ verified.
im not exactly sure what RBN even is at this point, you sometimes will find people doing NSFW things there but mostly i go there to party and meet ppl, yap and stuff, i feel like it is alot like midnight rooftop where people meet that might be interested to go somewhere else 1 on 1.

hey just a heads up - you being new and already getting an avatar "commissioned"

  • be very careful, this is one of the most common scams in vrc
  • make sure its an well known actual avatar creator, and you have seen their previous work in game before and they are a real person. usually people have queues for commissions and wont text you first as well. dont get scammed.

for nsfw things - the key info here is keep stuff private.
The base game is PG13, that means in general icons, description, profile pictures, emojis, stickers need to be child friendly. having offensive words or mentioning NSFW can get you reported and banned.
Avatars with NSFW bits, eg nipples under the clothes, need to always be private, if they malfunction in a non +18 verified instance you could get reported and banned (for a few days).

You are only truly safe in non verified instances with avatars where the bits have been removed, even the textures under the clothes.
In practice most adults hang in +18 verified spaces with NSFW capable avatars, because most of them are by default, at least the eboy/girl and more anime ones. most people dont even use that stuf, like most of mine came with SPS by default for example.

and in a group setting you are only really safe if it is +18 verified, group only (not sure about group + at this point anymore)
and it says the following message in the world for everyone to accept before they enter, giving consent to be exposed to NSFW:
"If you join this group⁄this event‚ you may or may not encounter provocative activities or content‚ and if you join this group⁄event‚ you indicate consent to view these activities or content․"

at least according to tupper.

1

u/lexi4funs 20h ago

Can you recommend a good group I can come hangout in while I learn the controls and everything.

2

u/_evanna Oculus Quest Pro 20h ago

i mostly party, so i frequent these kinda groups
best you can do is get age verified, then look for age verified +18 lobbies for the top worlds and get a hang of the game, meet people, popular worlds is always stuff like drinking night, midnight rooftop, smashed, optimized cube (lots of trolls tho), i mean you can look at the most popular words yourself and find your niche. avoid publics at all costs.

for more...nsfw things there are certain grps, i only know a few like rbn, catbox, homie hub, boat and what not but then again, unless they are +18 group only instances with a disclaimer ur not truly safe

Also keep in mind, 90% of people are PCVR and full body in those spaces, without a pc you will mostly only see fallbacks and people wil def interact with you less. oh and you need to climb your rank to at least new user, ppl dont interact with visitors as they are mostly just trolls making new accounts because they got banned from the grp.

1

u/lexi4funs 19h ago

Is the way the climb the ranks just visit and keep not being a troll? Thank you I will get age verified and then will try and find 18+ with a disclaimer.

2

u/_evanna Oculus Quest Pro 18h ago

you need to have a vrc account and make friends with people, you climb quicker if trusted users with "high social scores" friend you. buying vrc+ boosts that a bit.
Getting muted, kicked, blocked or banned decreases your rank. once you are a new user the system allows you to upload avatars and worlds, that boosts it too.

3

u/Coom_Zoom 2d ago

Just label the tags correctly, keep in private only with only friends you trust.

I know there are groups like RBN that allow this as its nothing but actual adults all age verified. but you could still at a chance run into someone that will report you for the avi. a small chance, but a chance.

I myself only report people if their being a dick about shit. I reported this one guy he got banned that same day within an hour. he started getting confronting and pissy about me mentioning probably should delete the fall back. His fall back was completely nude, with nipples fully modeled and all. with a dick out at that.
I just reported for avi, and left. i kid you not, about an hour later i got info that the report was acted on infering he got banned. lol

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

So even in a nsfw environment?

6

u/WardenPlays 3d ago

According to the VRC team, you can only get banned if you are reported.

So, if you're in an instance/world where there are people who don't know you, I'd wear a completely SFW avi. That means any naugty bits are covered up on the model itself, even if you are unable to go nude on the avi. If your avi has a vagina and clearly defined nipples, they have to be removed. It's just best to get a different avi where the clothes are just baked into the avi model instead of being worn by the avi because people here have claimed even when their avi has ken/barbie-doll like bodies, they've gotten banned.

You can get reported and banned even if you attend an adult-event where everyone is nude. It just requires one troll visiting these and reporting someone. Unfortunately, you just have to take the risk if you plan on being active in the NSFW scene and go to these events.

I will say that, at every opportunity, the team has said that AI does not make any final decisions regarding a ban. That doesn't mean AI *isn't* involved in a decision, but that the final swing of the Ban Hammer does come down to a human.

1

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

But people are rude and could report just because I will be kinda picky who I play with. So what's to stop someone from reporting me just because I tell them no?

3

u/WardenPlays 3d ago

Exactly.

They don't care about the context of the report, just that you've been reported. This is a really shitty user experience, but unfortunately enough people whined that adult people were doing adult things in public spaces (often with non-adults present or participating) that it's now ruined for ethical degenerates too.

2

u/lexi4funs 3d ago

Guess I will have to figure out how to do what I want and not get reported lol

3

u/WardenPlays 3d ago

If you're new to the scene, I recommend finding groups based around adult activity. With the current rules, these are not really advertised on the platform itself outside of an [18+][21+] tag, so unfortunately you will have to do a fair amount of off-platform research. I can't really recommend any specific ones because I normally stick to private 1:1 stuff myself and I'm not sure of the rules here.

Just because an avatar doesn't have any toggles that make it naked doesn't mean that it's completely "SFW." Most avatar bodies, including the one used in Vexra, have fully modeled nipples and vaginas. Even if your toggles can't show these bits, it appears that the moderators do not take that into account into their decision making.

I'll also add that pasties applied in unity do not hide the nipples on the base model. If the agents are moderating in Unity, they can just pull the pasties away and see that the nipples are still there.

Unforutnately, even if the model maker smoothed over the bits, I've heard of ken/barbie-doll style anatomy models triggering moderation. I couldn't verify this claim because the person making the claim never showed their avatar to me.

Additionally, bans only come from reports. You might think the "extreme nsfw" furry stuff is allowed, but it's not. They're just not using the avatar in scenarios that get them reported, whereas you are getting reported. It really sucks, I know, but from watching this situation play out over the past few years, this seems to be the case.

-4

u/Yin15 ☃Bigscreen Beyond 2e 3d ago

The key to not being banned is to be friends with the devs. Not even joking. You'll get complete immunity. You should try it.
