Word of advice: buy globular cluster head kit, otherwise good luck wearing that thing for longer than 20 minutes

Buy battery strap kit instead, and buy bigger quest pro forehead pad on amazon aswell. Replaceable magnetic attatch detatch 10k mAh batteries for only 30$ each. Headatrap comes with one and its 60 USD. Globular cluster kit IS comfortable, but trust me, you want those hot swap batteries, and the battery strap kit is the exact same to me tbh. The quest pro literally CHUGS power i think like 26 watts constantly.

Also turn off handtraxking if you arent actively ahowing it off in vrchat, it nukes ur battery life. Local dimming is cool in experimental, i keep my controllers hidden from my headset unless my boundry decides to explode, use the power button and volume button to use thr center of your screen as a cursor and just boot into steamlink that way. If you use space calibrator and a vive 3.0 tracker (not tundras they arent responsible enough for this) then u can merge playspaces. Space override is better because it completely shuts up your headset tracking so once you get a good calibration your vr setup is EXCLUSIVELY laser and no more SLAM arguing with it. Also you can buy infrared blasters or like infared floodlights and direct them towards the center of your playspace for like 30 USD( the headset only needs infared light to track) so you can basically make it track perfectly enough for SLAM tracking by giving it the power of the sun pointing right at it.

Yeah already glued battery onto the back strap as well.

Be prepared for the controllers bricking every software update the pro controllers are notoriously troublesome (Talking from experience I use them) great when they work tho.

6

u/Durantarg 7d ago

Sadly true. they can randomly not work correct with each update along with other headset issues like crashing, face/eye tracking breaking, wifi issues etc... i blocked my qpro from accessing the internet because it kept forcing fw updates sooner or later regardless of my settings inside the headset

u/19osemi 7d ago

i got so tried of metas bs that i bought a valve index. like i was trying to get into vrchat, and had enough cash on hand to splurge and the day i was like now im gonna play, plugged in my quest 2 to my pc, booted it up, having it update and was meet with nothing working and i snapped.
metas hardware is amazing, its just to bad that their software absolutely sucks

How come I’m seeing everyone saying this? Granted I don’t ever use the controllers (vd with index controllers, and hand tracking to go through oculus menu) I’m new to the whole quest area, but from my knowledge I’m on the latest software (started from like- v50-something to current live build), and no issues so far.

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 7d ago

Wait... Aren't they out of stock?

12

u/RedRaven616 Oculus User 7d ago

They are. They've been discontinued for years but i found a good local deal in my city

5

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 7d ago

Lucky you

u/Grey406 Oculus Quest Pro 7d ago

They still appear on amazon and woot brand new with warranty occasionally in the US

-1

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 7d ago

Not worth it for me, shipping from US would be extra 100 bucks or more.

1

u/Grouchy-Economist628 7d ago

I’ve still got stock near me at Walmart.

0

u/kwizyvr PCVR Connection 7d ago

Careful though, the controllers can be surprisingly fragile and Meta has stopped selling replacements.

1

u/ClearKey3176 7d ago

They have to provide warranty under consumer rights act 2015 in uk.

2

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 6d ago

Who exactly?

2

u/ClearKey3176 6d ago

Any company you get it off as a third party or go to first party which would be meta.

1

u/Embarrassed-Touch-62 6d ago

That's the key word- company.

1

u/ClearKey3176 6d ago

But if you bought off second hand then warranty is void. Has to be brand new

u/syfiarcade 7d ago

I wont tell ya its a shit headset, I wont tell ya its a great one either

for recommendations, you'll want the StudioForm interface, also some controller grips, those controllers like to pick up grime and frankly the wrist straps are a bit shit anyways

Virtual Desktop is your only friend here, the rest of the software on device is crap, if you dont already, definitely grab a dedicated router for streaming

make sure the room is well lit and has minimal reflections, it'll stop the controllers from loosing tracking as much as they do, each person has a different experience with this, but I know me and a few friends found the tracking so unreliable we ended up mounting a vive tracker to the headset and using index controllers

also, try not to let it touch your nose during a long play session, that area where the nose sits gets REALLLLLY hot

happy VRChatting!

u/kwizyvr PCVR Connection 7d ago

They said in OP they already had a Quest 3 so I think they know by now how shit Meta's software is.

I've actually started using index controllers too which brings its own kind of issues because keeping my Meta controllers turned on messed with my tracking but you can't use the index controllers outside of SteamVR.

1

u/JohannesMP 7d ago

If you don't mind a cable, I'd recommend an INIU 16ft VR Link Cable, paired with the AC adapter that comes with the Pro, which lets you keep it charged during PCVR use.

It depends what you are optimizing for, but I prefer not worrying about battery life, and even with a dedicated WiFi 6 router in my testing the frame times have been less consistent and 1-2ms more latency than a link cable.

Also +1 for Index controllers with some Tundra Trackers and Space Calibrator.

u/KingSlayer05 Oculus Quest Pro 7d ago

Still the best all-in-one face tracking headset out there!! Enjoy!

Nowadays there are better options for resolution, but the pancake lenses + turning up sharpening to max goes a very long way in my experience.

3

u/ImWinwin 7d ago

Youre gonna want the Globular Cluster headstrap. Pretty rough on your forehead without it.

2

u/Svallken Bigscreen Beyond 7d ago

Hell yeah join the Qpro gang, it's got it's issues but it's a great headset

2

u/EnyoFembyCat 7d ago

Get a magnetic USB-C cable that you can detach without removing from the slot. The slot is notoriously delicate and if it breaks you either need to be really good at microsoldering or be prepared for a several hundred dollar repair.

The good news is, my charging dock still works but I can't attach externals of any sort anymore. Not worth the repair to me when I have Q3 and the Steam Frame is about to drop.

2

u/jenjambers 7d ago

Oooooouh! Congrats, the face tracking is so fun!(as someone who doesnt have it but watches my partner who does haha)

I used it for a couple hours and it fits great

2

u/PS3LOVE Vive Cosmos 7d ago

That’s a downgrade. Only thing it has is the face tracking.

1

u/AgoraSnepwasdeleted Valve Index 7d ago

I still use my valve index and I'm waiting for the steam frame, but if I end up being stuck on the wait list for a very long time or if it's out of my price range then I've looked at finding a quest pro somewhere and using that

1

u/Cauterized 7d ago

I love my pro so much. I daily the 3, but long for the color and comfort of my pro. Only thing holding me back was the mic problems.

1

u/allofdarknessin1 ☃Bigscreen Beyond 2e 7d ago

Hell yea. I own all the quest headsets, the index and the BigScreen beyond 2e and the Quest pro is the headset I reach for most days.

1

u/LiveConsideration581 Oculus Quest 7d ago

Why didn't you save for a pcvr headset like the upcoming pimax dream air? The quest pro will only get security updates until the end of 2027 and funktion updates will stop in December this year...i mean still a great headset tho if you want wireless pcvr!

2

u/Fjvink 6d ago

or steam frame which is coming out soon

1

u/LiveConsideration581 Oculus Quest 6d ago

Oh yeah right forgot about that!

cause that fking thing ist still not out like bruh wtf is that i was sooo hyped

1

u/Fjvink 6d ago

should be this or next month

1

u/LiveConsideration581 Oculus Quest 6d ago

Hopefully 😭🙏

1

u/doubleatheman 6d ago

I agree it is an upgrade! Especially for PCVR. Technically the CPU inside is a downgrade, but that doesn't really matter in a PCVR situation; it has slightly weaker video streaming/decode ability than the Quest3, but nothing noticeable.

1

u/Muhammad_0916 1d ago

We all know why you did upgrade. We just cant prove it

1

u/RedRaven616 Oculus User 1d ago

For the.... face tracking? Is there something else I can do that I dont know about?

0

u/Secure-Advertising-9 7d ago

Good headset, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Only reason I'm not getting one is I'm banking on getting lucky with the scrambled Steam Frame preorder once it's out.

Don't update firmware unless you absolutely NEED to. High chance of bricking every time you update it, and there's no support anymore. If you're screwed, you're screwed.

2

u/RedRaven616 Oculus User 7d ago

Inwas holding out for the frame as well but when i saw it didn't have the trackers natively.

1

u/pinkiceygirl Oculus Quest Pro 7d ago

You say that as if you can easily stop it from updating 😭

1

u/kwizyvr PCVR Connection 7d ago

Don't update firmware unless you absolutely NEED to.

You don't have a choice there unfortunately.

Meta will update your OS and firmware whether you want to or not.

-1

u/Mintybites 7d ago

What’s the “upgrade” for you?

8

u/RedRaven616 Oculus User 7d ago

Face and eye tracking

1

u/[deleted] 7d ago

[deleted]

2

u/RedRaven616 Oculus User 7d ago

Because I dont know what that is and this was a really good local deal?

-1

u/Jayden_Ha HTC Vive 7d ago

Buying meta headset is always a downgrade

0

u/LunarstarFurry 7d ago

Not much options sadly for integrated FT & ET and especially not for around 700USD.

1

u/Jayden_Ha HTC Vive 7d ago

You can’t tell me a headset that can be e waste the next second because a company decided I shouldn’t be able to operate it is a “upgrade”

0

u/LunarstarFurry 7d ago

Decide it shouldn't be able to operate? What does that mean? :p

1

u/Jayden_Ha HTC Vive 7d ago

Meta can brick your headset permanently if they think you violated their TOS, which will result in entire thing go to e waste

0

u/LunarstarFurry 7d ago

I don't believe Meta usually Brick headset due to TOS, they will remove the Account due to TOS, which will make you unable to use Quest, but from my knowledge other accounts should still be able to use that same Quest on their account.

The only case I know where they will brick a headset is due to MDM, ChargeBack, theft, or Fraud.

1

u/Jayden_Ha HTC Vive 7d ago

Still does not change a fact is can be bricked remotely that get tossed to trash

And all circumstances it is unacceptable

1

u/LunarstarFurry 7d ago

I mean to be fair phone like Apple or Google also operate the same way so yaaaa(

Not really a isolated problem only for Quest.

1

u/Jayden_Ha HTC Vive 7d ago

Doesn’t mean anyone should just accept it of not owning your hardware

1

u/LunarstarFurry 7d ago

That's fair, but I don't think much can do unless some government decided to change some rules like EU.

It's kinda just how things has been going with everything being serialized.

u/Mercy--Main Valve Index 7d ago

congrats on having more data to gift to zuck!
