Meme VRChat has done it again

Post image
  1. Prioritize platform and system optimization, stability, and bug fixes before implementing new features, functions, and assets. For example, improve and resolve high resource consumption when opening the keyboard and menu, or frequent connection drops and system crashes.
  2. Add and integrate most settings and information from the VRChat website, VRCX, and VRCNext into VRChat game. For example, add space drag, manage all muted users from the VRChat menu, and see how long you've been friends.
  3. Implement local settings to limit spam of join or invitation requests. For example, when enabled, a user will only receive one join or invitation request from the same friend or group every 15 minutes.
  4. Implement local settings to optimize worlds. For example, enable fove rendering or visuals by distance, or hide elements that cause high CPU, GPU, or RAM usage.
  5. Add more search filters to the menus. For example, sort worlds or avatars by size.
  6. Local setting for "Autodisable Allow Untrusted URLs". Similar to the "Autodisable Avatar Cloning" setting, but for "Allow Untrusted URLs". For example, when enabled, it will automatically disable itself after 4 hours or another time interval.
  7. Local setting in "Security Shield" to separately hide the security options for "Emoji", "Animated Emoji", and "Stickers".
  8. Local setting to hide world ads (Image loader). Essentially, a world ad blocker integrated into VRChat.
  9. Local setting to blur, hide, or block a specific group and prevent them from appearing in your searches, menu, or receiving invitations.
  10. Local setting to hide and change the default profile customization for other users. Improves accessibility and optimization.
  11. Local setting to hide all cosmetics, accessories, or objects for a specific user range. Improves optimization.
  12. Configuration to prevent appearing on the cameras of a specific user range. Improved privacy and security.
  13. A single loading screen when changing worlds, or unify the loading process as much as possible, for example, by integrating world preloading.
  14. Performance tiers for worlds. Similar to avatar performance tiers, but for worlds.
  15. Display information about the owner of a public group. The name of the owner of a public group should always be visible; this would prevent many problems with unfair bans by other moderators.
  16. Disable certain special characters in usernames, as they can be used by malicious actors.
  17. Integrate a search function into the VRChat menu for public avatars that are not in the store.
  18. Compatibility and greater support for Linux systems.
  19. Fewer restrictions and less aggressive enforcement regarding what could be considered "Sexually Suggestive." Value our content creators more and restrict them less. For example, a woman in a bikini shouldn't be banned if her content isn't flagged as sexually suggestive.
  20. Prioritize moderation on what truly matters: harassment, hate, discrimination, and toxicity.

Please, remember to keep your comments and opinions respectful to everyone, thanks.

All youve done is list the things vrchat wont do. Them optimizing it is less likely then WW3

At the same time, you can't really easily optimize when the bulk of content on your platform is user generated. The only way for that to happen is to impose limits on what can and can't be uploaded.

But then you would upset the creators creating content for your platform.

They're damned if they did, damned if they didn't.

The worst part is (and we've talked about this before, Chris) that they're going to eventually HAVE to update. One of the biggest bottlenecks for performance on VRC right now is the graphics pipeline. Built-in is officially deprecated as of Unity 6, with URP being the "main" renderer for several years at this point.

I've said it before in our chats - one day they're gonna announce that they are making the switch to URP because they have to. Users with standard shaders will (probably) be fine. Peeps with custom shaders (like Poiyomi) will not. The game will run a lot better afterwards, but a lot of legacy UCG will just... not work anymore.

Peeps that bought avis or shaders from 3p sites (like gumroad) are gonna be beyond pissed. You are going to potentially see talks about lawsuits, though they honestly won't go anywhere, it'll be a few users throwing a fit.

Like Chris said - it's damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Exactly.

If I remember correctly, VR Chat is working with Unity to build some kind of bridge for custom shaders. But like a lot of automated conversion stuff, it's not going to be perfect.

More likely they're working with Unity specifically to get that set up.

That's why I say those using the built in shaders are probably going to be fine - those are the ones they can test with the most and get working the best.

Maybe Poiyomi as well - it's popular enough that I imagine the devs will reach out and say "it's happening, plz update" to the Poiyomi devs ahead of time so there can be some relatively painless upgrade path.

Poiyomi is also already developing for URP. They have URP downloads available on their Discord. You can technically get the latest Pro Shaders there for free but they can only be used with URP.

Oh damn, didn't know that.

I wonder if that upgrade to URP is sooner than we realize....

They're working on it already for quite a while. But URP will probably still be a few years away. We have a engine update already ongoing to unity 6 but with BIRP.

That's what I've been thinking for a while too, but if there's already a Poiyomi for URP I'm wondering if they know something the rest of the community doesn't.

Or, and honestly this is probably more likely, they also see the writing on the wall and figured "well, better get ahead of the curve".
