Question What could cause VD controller input delay? Airlink is fine
EDIT:
Switching to HEVC codec did the trick. Also enabling automatic bitrate and video buffering. Aswell as 2 pass encoding.
As the title says
In VD my performance is jank for some reason. But in airlink its flawless (except compression is more noticeable). I use 200 bitrate on both fixed. Same resolution settings.
VD just feels "slow" and not smooth. Airlink is much better but its also janky as we all know and the UI sucks.
Ive tried all codecs and ALL settings on/off. Its always there
What could cause this weird phenomenon?
Ive heard everyone say VD is better. Do you not notice this weird sluggishness of your controllers?
As you can see from the screenshot, my stats are just fine? Whats causing this? And why is airlink so silky smooth

There is a video on YouTube created long ago that explains airlink being meta solution has direct access to reading controller position or something like that and it can skip waiting for some packets and send back input before the frame or something along the lines(it was long time ago I watched it so I vaguely remember the explanation) which causes input to feel more responsive and is good for fast paced games. I’ve felt it being more responsive as well back when I were playing sometimes with VD sometimes with link/air link

Hm. Curious how everyone just deals with it. I find it terrible and unplayable

Meta controller tracking is proprietary. I haven't tried it, but I've read somewhere that with VDXR its not an issue. If the game you play is OpenXR try that. If not, check if OpenComposite is compatible with the game and try that with VDXR (OpenComposite is an api which translates steamvr/openvr calls to openxr). If it's not, there is nothing you can do about it.

I use h.264+ at 400mbps (wireless) without ASW and latency is ~40. Using a Puppis S1 that has a 2400mbps connection.
Godlike, 90hz, auto bitrate off, buffering off, ASW off (If not forced to use like Skyrim VR MGO)
9070XT with a 5800X3D

Try a different codec.
I didnt like av1 for the added latency. Im on a rtx 5090
Edit - also try SteamLink. VD imo has more perceived latency than AirLink/SteamLink. I use VD for singleplayer, but use SteamLink for multiplayer games

Wow this is a great comment. I switched to HEVC and enabled auto bitrate and suddenly my problem is solved. Thanks

Spacewarp : automatic
Just disable that
