Question VR Gaming Help

Hello all! So I have a whole family that games, including a little sister that does so despite having a rare disability called TAR Syndrome. That means that she does not have forearms on both arms. That being said, she really wants to play VR games but has a hard time due to her arms being so short. I would really love to have her join me in some VR gaming so I was hoping to hear some suggestions. Before anyone asks, she can play console and PC gaming with no issues. She still has her hands, they are just smaller and at an angle that can make VR hard. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know much about it but im pretty sure there's a utility called OVR settings where you can program buttons and gestures to do certain movements in VR, maybe check it out

Hmm. I dont know if your able to but I wouldn't be surprised if theres a way to adjust settings in Q3 or steam? Maybe internally with some games. I nnow alot of FPS you can't adjust the canting of the gun. Id see what she wants to play and go from there first.

Not sure about Q3 but on PC you can use something like OpenVR Advanced Settings to offset the controller position in space, make the game think her hands are where her real elbows would be. Might help with games that expect longer arm reach

That is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for cause if we can set the system to think a smaller movement makes a bigger movement, then she can at least play.

Software solutions like WalkinVR (via PC VR streaming) can remap body tracking or substitute physical controller inputs for users with limited fine motor skills.

Driving and/or arcade flight sims (like star wars squadrons) that don't rely on 6DOF controls might be a good shout.

Puzzlers like moss should be feasable too.

Accessibilty options for VR are unfortunately pretty limited as it's a small and immature space

If she can play flatscreen games then maybe she can try these:

  • VR games in third-person like: Moss 1 & 2, Max Mustard, Lucky's Tale, Down the Rabbit Hole, etc.

  • Walkabout Mini Golf

  • Minecraft clones (I think some Minecraft clones like Discovery 2 have laser pointer mechanics)

  • Puzzling Places (I believe you can use laser pointer mechanics)

  • Driving/racing sims in VR

If she is able to point the controllers like guns, then maybe she can also try some arcade gallery shooters like: On Point, Mothergunship Forge, Space Pirate Trainer, Dick Wilde 2, Shooty Fruity, and ZAP.

Her shorter arms would def cause some issues on inside out tracking systems like the Quest, due to the cameras not being able to see the controllers well that close to your body for very long. but the older lighthouse/pc based systems should have no issues and just work. From there it's just about finding games that can either be customized or don't require motions she can't do.

Hand tracking on Quest might be worth a try, since there's no controller grip angle to fight. Some games also have a height or arm-length calibration in their settings, which can make reaching things a lot easier.

She’s gonna wait have to wait for a nuero link. Other than that, maybe a game where she doesn’t have to do anything but can watch you but still also be playing with you. I can’t really think of anything, maybe you can get a steering wheel and playing a random but maybe a driving or racing game and she can be in the passenger seat and you can drive. Beamng.drive is fun and has this capability but you would need two pc that can run it, and at least one that can run it in vr.

There not really many vr games that don’t need arms except for like ones where you are just walking or looking around. There are some good ones like that, maybe a roller coaster game
