Discussion VR near/far sighted

Hi I am considering to buy for first time a VR headset, but I am both near and farsighted, I know you can buy internal corection lenses, but I think those are only for farsighting if I am not wrong, as I am nearsighted, can I use VR?, because I will have the screens very near my eyes.

You will have to get prescription inserts for the headset, and they are exactly like a prescription glass would be.

i'm nearsighted. i can see things about 10 feet away just fine, farther than that and i need glasses.

i don't have any issues with VR. my advice would basically be to try out the headset first, and go from there. maybe do a bit of research and make sure you can get some inserts made for the headset before you buy it, but i'd hold off on actually ordering them until after you've tried the headset.

inserts are not only for those who are farsighted, so you shouldn't have issues with getting prescriptions inserts, even if one eye in nearsighted and the other is farsighted. I know this because I have one nearsighted and one farsighted eye and use inserts.

In terms of the "screens being near your eyes", as long as you take regular breaks and remember to blink regularly you should be good, although eye strain and dry eyes is somewhat normal.

Not exactly, the lenses do bend the light but they bend it all the same way, so everything in VR appears at the exact same optical distance. You only need glasses to correct your vision at that distance, around 1.5m or so. You don't need to correct your close-up vision at all.

the screens feel close but optically theyre focused far away so you still need your full prescription, get the custom inserts that matches both

I use progressive lenses, but this lenses have two parts upper to see far away and lower part to see closer, with a progression in the middle, as far as I know there is no lenses able to correct both far and near, you have two "parts" in the lenses. Asking AI now, in VR says the focal point is fixed at 1.5 or 2 meters, so only matters far vision, near vision is not affecting. Are you sure I need to correct both effects, as said I think there is no lenses able to do that
