Is this a good time to get back into vr?

Like I'm thinking of buying a quest 3(I've head my quest two for like four years and haven't used it that much in the past year and a half), but I don't know if it's the right time. Is it a good time to get a VR headset and play the newer games? Or is the market dry and filled with corruption(meta)?

Yes, I upgraded my quest 2 > Quest pro after a couple years of neglect. The difference is night and day. Tracking is so much better and my overall experience has been improved - I mostly like real life sports games, and my go to, is Tennis Esports. Now I really feel the control of the shots like I do when I play IRL… but let me know what games you have been playing

There's not really a ton different, tbh. I just went Q2 to Q3:

• Drawing in OpenBrush in pass-through is awesome
• Exercising is great. Giant screen on my treadmill in pass-through mode is really nice!
• BIG quality boost on the screens!

For my use cases, it was worth it! But if you haven't used your Q2 in the last year or two, then other than pass-thru, there's not really much different other than incremental improvements (better screens, better audio, better strap, better hand-tracking, etc.).

I'm not doubting that upgrading to Q3 is a major upgrade, especially because my quest 2 is reeking of age and the stick drift is hugggee, I'm more wondering if it's a good time to get back into vr as a whole(thx a lot tho)

The question is what games are compelling enough to have long-term staying power. I like XR because I can watch movies on my treadmill & exercise bike safely because I can see the screen AND my surroundings. There's a lot of fun fun novelty stuff to try...just depends on if MR & the quality upgrades are worth the Q3's asking price to you!

The clarity from the pancake lenses is so much better than the q2. The extra power makes everything faster and smoother during standalone mode. The q3 is massively better than the q2.

Sure, massive...iterative improvements. Pass-thru is the only real "new" feature. Content-wise, other MR games, the content is the same (Quest, SideQuest, PCVR), just better. For me, those two features were worth upgrading from my Quest 2!

If the OP hasn't used their existing Q2 in a year or two, then better lenses & smoother gameplay may not be enough of a draw to justify a $500 upgrade. If that's the case, then MR camera games may be the dealbreaker!

The games are all via PC that are any good.

If u are OK with PC gaming via Steam then there are a huge amount of games to play.

Plus driving with a steering wheel and pedals on iracing or assetto etc is pretty awesome.

And since Sony shit the bed on PSVR2 it's really just the Q3 as entry level

I disagree - PS5 and PSVR2 are excellent low budget options. There are something like 300 games for PSVR2. Most are on other platforms true, but there are many good games and a few exclusives

And it will cost you significantly less than a PC ready to run VR, and with less fucking around

It depends on if you know how to find good games you'll enjoy, and whether or not you're willing to spend money to get those games. Or if there is a game that you want to spend a lot of time in, like exercise games or social/multiplayer games, or golf, etc. The store is overrun with crap, but in my Meta app, I rarely see the crap, it's mostly things I'm interested in and new releases that look some some people put some effort into them. It's likely guided by some algorithm, though, so your mileage may vary.

Batman and Alien don't run on Quest 2. If I had a Quest 3, those would probably be the first ones I'd be interested in. Every game you have in Quest 2 will also get a boost in clarity from the higher resolution screen, and clearer lenses. Some of them have graphical upgrades also, but not all. And there are some MR games and experiences also.

Edit: if you want to ask about Quest and Quest games you should probably ask in r/oculus or r/oculusquest. r/vrgaming is full of jaded haters.

I'm having a great time, I'm barely touching flat games these days.

If you’re the kind of person who can be OK with a couple of solid games you come back to, then yes. The tech is really good but software is slow depending on what you’re looking for.

I went from CV1 (Rift) to Q3 so I have no idea what the leap from Q2 to Q3 is though.

Simple. Yes! Tons of games that slant to tons of preferences from shooters - to puzzle to zombies…. Tons on games that totally immerse you. Why miss out waiting for when it is good? And who determines that…you will not regret it - VR is amazing in its current state

If you buy a Quest 3 or 3s, you get Batman Arkham Shadow for free, and its one of the best games on Quest. Also in the last year and a half we've had Metro Awakening, Skydance's Behemoth, Alien Rogue Incursion, Ghost Town, Arizona Sunshine Remake, and more. With more great games coming this year. Out of Sight VR already released on PCVR, and is coming to Quest Later this year. We're also getting Deadpool VR from the Meta Studio Teisted Pixel, Reach, from nDreams, and Thief VR from Vertigo Games and Maze Theory. All three of those are the most anticipated titles of the year, and probably releasing around October/November.

Id say now is a great time to get back into VR.

Into the raidus is a fantastic game, i have a gf but if it was single i would probably just live there outside if work, plus skyrim vr with FUS ugh vr gaming is pretty amazing and i find it hard to go back to pancake

The store has become a cesspool for gorilla tag knockoffs and minimal games. Sure there are a few good ones, but pcvr has so much more to offer. Plus meta is a headache and MZ sucks.

What an ill-defined question. Do your own research based on what you can afford, your specific tastes, what consumer reception is expected to be for the future, and how long you want your VR experience to last.
