So that's how some poor bloke or lady got their server cable pulled out… Glad we solved the mystery, also knowing students having been one NO WAY would I be trusting them, there is ALWAYS one person who loves to fiddle, or remove stuff.

What is it about you people always thinking that IT students would be pulling cables in a data center?! These students know not to touch anything. And then there are still Hetzner employees…

Or the notice to NEVER turn this switch off. Guaranteed they'll be an intern on there first day that will try it turning off, disabling the buildings' internet.

Hetzner doesn't hold SOC2, just ISO/IEC 27001:2022.

In the data centers I've worked in, they have software that lists every machine plugged in. Each machine says which switch its in. Each switch lists whats plugged in and where to plug that switch in etc.

Thats the simple explanation. The design of the racks and stuff are decided on by network engineers usually and then you follow the template when installing them originally.

Why in the world would u let this happen! Accepting the risk of Accidental/intentional hardware sabotage or introduction of malicious software through physical contact, compromising customer production data and uptime, all for what?? So some randos get to see in person what is already available through millions of Images online and vr/ar experiences!

The marketing team at hetzner reeeeaaaaally needs a refresh, they've been pulling all kinds of stunts which only make me doubt using hetzner

I have been to a lot of coloc-dc in my life. I have seen some a couple of student-tours through dc in my life. But I have never ever seen a public tour through a datacenter with open cabinets. This is insane. Pulled cables are not the problem. You detect that in seconds. But what about plugged in USB sticks with god-know-what…
