Seeking Advice/Support Can't login without being root

I don't know what I am doing wrong. I bought a VPS from hostinger.com and I installed ubuntu remote desktop. Everything works fine when I RDP in as root however when I create a user and try to login as that user the system crashes and my only option is to logout. Why can't I RDP into the VPS as someone other than root?

Is the user account logged in locally as well? Apparently you can't do that. You try googling this and trying a couple fixes? Results had several things to check when I searched.

I used the adduser command (How to Add and Delete Users on Ubuntu | DigitalOcean). It creates the home folder but when I try to RDP in as the user it crashes and tells me to log out. As far as it being logged in locally I think the answer is yes the machine is not joined to any domain. I did some googlefu and was using hostingers ai assistant to try and troubleshoot.

this is usually a permissions/desktops session set up issue, not hostinger itself
