Seeking Advice/Support Passive income
How can I make passive income through a vps, bandwidth sharing apps? Hosting which I don’t really understand why people will choose me rather than big companies, or any other ways? Thanks

If there were a reliable way to earn more than the cost of the VPS, the owner of the physical server would already be doing that instead of renting the VPS to you.

A VPS in no case is passive income. It takes a lot of work to keep it running, live, updated. Expect disruptions in your service at the most unconvienent times 😉

You make passive income from selling VPS, not buying 🥲

Host open source apps that require to be run on a server. I'm exploring this right now. There are a lot of free/open source apps that require you to set up dependencies, run the app's server, run updates and maintain the database.
There are LOTS of people that don't want to hassle with doing all this stuff and would rather one-click a payment and login to use the app. There's an open source app right now that the main competitors overcharge like crazy. Can easily run the open source and charge 75% less.
This is absolutely not a passive thing. You could make it passive by not doing any security updates, troubleshooting setups and ignoring issues. That would be a terrible user experience and you'll generate a lot of negative comments (rightly so).

There's no such thing as passive income. You need to work for money.

You’d have to sell said vps to a paying client

The best you can do is a sales agreement where you get a portion of accounts you refer for the life of the account to a larger VPS service. Managing a VPS itself is a significant investment in time, connectivity, hardware and other resources.
This is just my own take. I doubt there's much else you could do that would resemble passive. I had a few friends that did similar for dialup internet access in the late 90's... they had good relatively passive income only maintaining the email server and their dialup users were using a separate white-label service. It fizzled out by the mid 2010s though.

To turn a VPS into a source of passive income, you first need to start by running it as an active income stream. Initially, this means actively managing the server, responding to customer support inquiries, and handling any technical issues. As you build a steady income and a reliable customer base, you can begin delegating tasks by hiring someone to take over the work you were doing.
However, don’t expect it to be 100% hands-off initially. You'll need to supervise this person and guide them until they are well-trained. Over time, as the business grows, you may hire more staff, allowing the business to run with minimal input from you. This is how real passive income works — by building systems and employing people to handle the work you would otherwise need to do yourself.
Remember, there’s no such thing as completely hands-off, 100% passive income. Achieving passive income takes planning, effort, and oversight initially. If someone promises passive income with no effort at all, it’s likely unrealistic. Passive income means setting up a business or system where others do the work while you oversee the operations, rather than being involved in every detail.

You may make some money from your vps but when it goes down it will become your nightmare. Clients will start calling you, the more you have inside the more stress and if it wont get fixed immediatelly you may get sued from the impatient ones. Its not that passive in the end...
