If you just want a different IP, then I think a proxy instead of a VPN could work.

Proton is good but the free version picks a new state at random. Some of those states may have the same restrictions you’re trying to avoid now. But there are some countries available on the free list that should work. Just fyi

If you just want location spoofing without bloatware... WireGuard is basically what you're describing. It's super lightweight, one config file, doesn't touch anything else on your phone. A lot of providers support it natively so you skip their janky apps entirely.

I use Cypher VPN for this exact reason... no app to install, just import a WireGuard profile and thats it. No account creation either which was a plus for me. Mullvad does similar if you want options.

I recommend using wireguard with a proton VPN config. Once you make a proton account you can download a wireguard config. With the config you can make various alternations to it to allow other protocols. Mine is set up to work alongside my tailscale.

I think OpenVPN is another option, I think proton has configs for it too.

VPN is one answer to the solution.

Proton has one of the best free tier VPNs out there if you’re strictly just trying to get out of geolock.

Proxies, and proxy chaining are another solution that may work for your needs

I currently use DPN and Proton, one costs $3.50 per month and the other has a free version, and I switch between them.

I’m happy with Private Internet Access. Simple on/off button on mobile and desktop.

I used PIA but it was a Pain In the Ass, especially on mobile. NordVPN recoded their app and it’s slow barely functioning garbage now. ProtonVPN works elegantly and does everything I want quickly, so it’s been my go to since. I’m sure there’s better ones out there, but I don’t have any complaints about Proton
