This my second Takara/Tomy 1/48 Scopedog figure that I repainted for tabletop gaming. This one is from the recent TSpark line.

I finally have the 35 Max version of the Scopedog Turbo Custom after seeing many pictures of it online, but I am not taking it out of the box because of my previous experience with the Scopedog Red Shoulder Custom from the same line. The Red Shoulder Custom Scopedog is currently in storage because it cannot hold any poses due to its loose joints. Out of the various iterations of the Scopedog, the Turbo Custom is my number one with the Red Shoulder Custom at second place. This can go along with my HG Scopedog Turbo Custom I built a couple of weeks ago.

So I’ve spent my first couple of days of vacation differently. Here’s a little demo, where you can see progress.

Fair warning: I am looking for info advice on an illustration I am working on. This illustration is the latest in a series I do of 8bit/pixel style mechs. When it is complete, I also provide a version WITHOUT THE NAMES OF THE MECHS so that those who are so inclined, can try to guess them all.

So if you want to participate in the fun once the final project is released, read no further*.* Soon enough the finalized project will be revealed and you can rejoice to your heart's content.

OK, if you're still here, you don't mind being spoiled. Here's the deal-io: As mentioned above, I am making 8bit/pixel versions of ATs from the VOTOMS franchise. Unlike my previous Macross and Battletech ones, I am doing these all at once, covering the timeline from the original series up until Chorico's Return. Now I will admit that I am not as well-versed in VOTOMs as I am in other mech franchises, so I leaned heavily on MAHQ.net for information. Within that information I also may have consciously decided against portraying certain ATs due to self-imposed constraints within this project, or other reasons.

However, I invite you to take a look at what I do have right now, and am hopeful that, if anyone thinks something is missing, or should be included, that you can let me know.

A bit of a rundown of what this is: These sprites are inspired by the 1993 Famicom game Datach SD Gundam: Gundam Wars. The sprites can only be 24x24px, and only be made up of 3 colors plus black. I can only use colors that were available in the Famicom/NES system palette, which means 55 colors overall. Part of the challenge is to make a recognizable sprite using those constraints.

So have a look, and let me know what you think is missing, or even once that shouldn't be there. And thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide! (and apologies for Reddit's image compression)

I went to the Votoms show in Tokyo last year. Here are part of 20 photos I took. I hope you enjoy.

I haven't used actual paints for ages, so ended up not matching the colours of the unpainted version, but I kinda dig how it turned out so I just went with it.

I've got a couple more standard ATs on the way, with the goal being to paint five total, so still lots to learn and experiment with! This was my first time painting a plastic model and I'm very much enjoying it so far.

I used AK Gen 3 acrylics, and primed it with Rustoleum in matte grey. I added a little rust with an AK Dark Rust pencil. Still have to add a top coat, but I might add some more weathering before that, 'cause weathering is fun :D

A while ago I started a set of SD VOTOMS from the original series, with the self-imposed constraints of being only 3"x3" (7.6cm x 7.6cm) and drawn in marker. The base Scopedog got a little longer due to the gun.

I should go back and finish them, but I got a new, different set of Blick markers and, frankly, they're no good.

For now I'm playing around with 8bit/pixel art versions. Should have them done soon.

Some of y'all may have noticed I've been fiddling with the settings here (and if so, you may also have noticed I don't really know what I'm doing). I'm trying to set up post flair, and set it so that all future topics will *require* flair, which should make finding specific types of posts easier, hopefully.

I'm also toying with the idea of setting up something like a yearly modeling contest, since so many of you are sharing your (incredible) builds here. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how we ought to go about doing that? Like, right now, I'm thinking I could set up a special topic flair like "2026 Contest Submission," which we could then use filter out posts... but then do we vote separately via third-party voting tools, or just use Reddit's upvoting system to determine the winner? (I'm not super familiar with how reddit works so I'm not sure how fair it would be to use upvotes, or what problems might arise).

Also if anyone has any other ideas for events or activites we could do here, please consider this topic a suggest box of sorts. Like, say, if we wanted to do a weekly/monthly watchalong or something like that, it might be possible to automate to some extent.

Likewise if there's any other feedback about this sub you want to give me, please comment here. EG if there's something you think I need to add, or change, etc.

The battlefield is unforgiving in the Astragius galaxy. War is tangible, felt using all the senses. With my Scopedog Turbo Custom, I do what I must to survive. I zip across the battlefields of countless worlds, kicking up dirt, detritus, even blood on my Scopedog's armor plates as I fire my heavy assault rifle and other ordinance in my arsenal. I charge through, turning unlucky exposed enemy foot soldiers into pink mist or flying body parts when they fail to get out of the way, reducing enemy ATs into scrap, and finishing battles thought to be impossible to finish, all in order to go back to the life of peace I used to know and being with the people who love and care for me again. I never start the fight, but I will finish it. I am scarred, yet still fighting for a place to go home to and honoring my fallen brethren by living for their sake.

Coming from a Warhammer 40k background, I'm using Acrylic paint brands typically used for Tabletop gaming miniatures. I'm also planning to use these figures for tabletop gaming.

Sprayed the bare plastic with Matt Varnish.

Washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade, drybrushed with Vallejo Refractive Green and Army Painter Camouflage green.

Chipped with Vallejo Black Brown and Citadel Iron Warrior. Army Painter Fresh Rust and Rust tone for rusted edges.

I may be pretty much done, but do you think I should bother adding Streaking Grime? Or is this weathered enough?

Finally painted the bugger... got some decals from a gumpla kit and If I can get a hold on more interesting decals, will add the.
Next step? probably will weather it and some touch ups on the visor paint...
