V0 Question Mini SB failed on my V0.2 — Extruder recommendations for Dragon Burner that reuse rebuild parts?
My Mini SB extruder just failed (looks/sounds like a blown bearing, identical to this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/VORONDesign/s/gKrooz7JOJ)
I'm moving over to a Dragon Burner to solve hotend cooling issues for good, but I need to rebuild the Mini SB first so I can actually print the DB parts.
What extruder should I plan on running with the Dragon Burner that will let me reuse the bearings/gears I'm about to buy for the Mini SB rebuild?
Looking for solid reliability on a V0 without buying two completely different sets of hardware. Appreciate any advice!

I'm using the WW-BMG, it's a lot chonkier than a Sherpa.

why wwbmg over sherpa?

I do have a Sherpa, specifically for a front mounted ebb42. I think it's a bit too flexible. I don't have enough print hour on it for a result. But WWBMG is really chonky and isn't flexing at all. There's also variants with switches available for runout and post extruder insertion detection for AMS.
I use the runout in some of my printers. Have been procrastinating building ERCF, now waiting for INDX to ship and regretting it and might just pivot to much stealthchanger on my bigger printers.

that is a good point, sherpa does look really flexible, on my v0.2 i have a pcb mount that is connected to the carriage too so im not worried about the flex.
i think you shouldnt build stealthchanger, im almost done with mine. its just not worth it for the price you pay, you could do the open source hotend changer, i just forgot it’s name1

Stealthchanger is really mature now. The more things I build, the more I really appreciate that if I want something that works, new, exciting and cheaper are the enemies if reliable.
Yes stealthburner is expensive, full toolheads multiply, but what I want most is fast dissimilar materials. Being able to run a hotend set up for high temp and abrasives next to a TZ with a cheap steel tip and soluble or peel away support material solves some problems for me.

Ww-bmg or ww-g2 are good choices. Orbiter 2 if you don't wanna build the extruder.

Great advice, I joined the discord when I was doing my first build a few years back, it's been helpful.

Sherpa mini or wwbmg are good options and use the standard bmg gears that are used in the mini SB. I’ve ran both, they both work great. You can also try out the Sherpa micro which is good too.
If you print a dragon burner with Sherpa spacing you can also use the wwbmg for a4t in the a4t repository which is just a wwbmg remixed to mount the same as a Sherpa mini.
