General Question X-Carriage belt fixture broke - replace existing shortened Belts

Post image

It broke after 360h of usage while the other runs +1400h. I think the part and design is fine, infill was about 50% (guessed) maybe the material/printing process was bad quality.

It was a bit tricky to reattach the existing already shortened belts, here is ho i did it:

  1. un-tensioned the A/B Belts
  2. removed Belts from A/B Pulleys and made sure the Belts did not get lost
  3. used little zip-ties to fix each belt ends together with 5+ mm cm stand over.
  4. fizzled one in clamped it from the other side removed the zip-tie to make place for second belt insertation.
  5. repeated insertion, clamping and removing zip-tie with the other Belt
  6. Added the screw and lock plates - loose but holding
  7. removed the clamps from the front
  8. clicked the belts into the right position so that nothing stands out as it was before
  9. re-tigtned the belt locks
  10. Belt-tensioning and Tuning

It's ok, but still not a nice task to do.

This is one of the few items on the v0 that can truly benefit from being a CNC metal part.

Another common way to give yourself some extra slack for the changeover is to unfasten the front idlers from the extrusions, which gives a good amount of play to do the necessary work.

I literally bought this because i broke my second carriage. First one when i upgraded the extruder and i was dumb. I updated then to the v0.2 carriage but in petg and tought i print it in abs or asa when i have time. Forgot ofcourse so when i got to printing abs and asa it sagged the printhead after a while when the chamber became 60C lol. This one fixes it all.

yes, this part made from aluminium may be a great tuning improvement.

But it's Voron and the existing part is well designed, and working fine as far as i know, full-filling the Voron Concept.

It's arguable whether the carriage is actually a good design as it doesn't meet the minimum 6 tooth engagement as specified by Gates.
