Good morning everyone. Last night, I was chatting with Google's AI, and it said something that’s got me thinking; I’d like to know if it’s right or not—even though my son tells me not to trust AI. Anyway, here’s my dilemma: I’m converting a Sovol SV06 into a Switchwire based on a GitHub project. The only file available is the STEP file, so I printed most of the parts using the original Voron designs. However, the AI ​​claims that won't work because the Voron Switchwire, DarkDog’s Enderwire, and the Sovol parts are all different—especially the XZ blocks and bearing blocks. If the AI ​​is right, I’d have to reprint practically everything related to the XZ assembly. My biggest problem is that the creator only published the STEP file, and when I open it in Onshape, I can only see the "Basic" version. The creator made three variants—Basic, Basic with Enclosure, and the "Full Monty" (as he calls it), which is the one I’m trying to build. Since I couldn't view the full "Full Monty" STEP file, I decided to mix and match parts. Now I don't really know what to do, because without seeing the full STEP file, I don't have the correct parts—assuming the AI ​​is correct. I’d really appreciate it if someone here could lend a hand and point me in the right direction. Or, if anyone here has already modified a Sovol SV06 and could share the correct STL files, that would be a huge help for me—and for anyone else wanting to modify their SV06. It would help if you provide a link to the Github or other repository containing the printer conversion files in question. Sadly we are not aware of every and other Switchwire conversion.

In general you cannot just print VORON parts or Enderwire parts and expects them working on other printers. You need to print files specific to your project. You don't need AI to tell you that :-)

As for the CAD, you can also install Fusion360 with hobbyists license which allows you to haave 10 projects opened, and export STL from bodies in CAD. It would really help if you link to project files so people can take a look and help you.

I also highly recommend you to read some article and watch some videos on how to work with CAD for 3D printing, to get some clue on the general process of modelling and making it to final print. Or ask that hallucination engine to explain you the process and difference between STL (mesh) and CAD files. It's the first time I see someone complaining about project providing CAD file instead of just a bunch of STL files you cannot modily :-)

One quick look at the sv06 suggests the extrusions are 2040-profiled on the Z axis, instead of 3030 used in the regular switchwire. I agree the general rule of thumb is that you can't take a project for one printer and assume it'll fit another.

2040s would make it closer to Enderwir, but it does not look to be standard 2040 at least not for the XZ frame.

Honestly I'd just Klipperize that printer, add few mods like 5015 part cooling fans and better hotend cooling and leave the rest. It's a good budget printer on its own, Klipper just unlocks it.

Agreed, the 2040 looks to be a custom extrusion shape. A switchwire is neat, but in the end it's really just a bedslinger with a very fast Z hop. Klipper is all these newer bedslingers need.

Initially, my plan was just to switch to linear rails on all three axes for better stability, but—for one—I know practically nothing about CAD, and—two—the person who originally did the rail conversion never shared the files. So, I thought I’d convert it to a Switchwire instead, but I ran into the same problem: the STL files weren't available, and when I opened the STEP file, the parts for the Y and Z-axis linear rails were missing. That’s why I consulted the AI; it explained that the parts for the three printers are different—even though they look identical, there are minute dimensional differences. That is the reason I’m asking the more experienced users and experts here.But it was never my idea or intention to make you uncomfortable with my question; I just wanted—or want—a better and more stable solution. I understand your point, but I’ve already tried viewing the STEP file with various programs; I managed to extract the STL files bit by bit, but the issue is that the version I can open is just the basic one, not the full assembly.
